i asked these elsewhere, but they went unanswered . . .

1 - delta, how does it work? i downloaded the 8-to-9 update file, followed the instructions, nothing

as far as i can tell there is no app to run the file in alpha 8, so how does the upgrade work?

2 - memory usage, i ran free for pup 4.12, alpha 8, and just for fun, slackware 10.2:

Code:

puppy 4.1.2      -  95628 used
upup 8           - 113308 used
slack 10.2 [cli] -  61712 used
slack 10.2 [kde] - 139076 used

why does upup use so much more ram at boot than pup412 did? closing in on kde is nothing to be proud of . . .

Free takes into account also cache etc.. so might give a wrong image when comparing.
In either Beginners or Users, Bruce B has developed and published a memfree script giving the exact memory footprint.

Ha, ha, yes, I forgot the obvious... no xdelta in alpha8, so how can you use it?

I need to upload a pet pkg. all that is needed is the 'xdelta' utility plus my 'xdelta_gui' script. I'm in Melbourne right now, using someone else's computer, will upload these files in a couple of days.
