PC Speaker as a Sound card

#1 Post by Carlosftm »

I would like to ask if it is possible to add the application to make the PC speaker to work as a SoundCard. That would be very nice for people like me that have no support for the sound card in puppy(Sound MAX from analog devices).

I tried to install an aplication like that, but it is needed to patch the kernel, and other things that Im not able to do becase my knowledge in linux is very basic :?: .

Thank you, and keep on with this great project

yes, I have also thought that would be good, if someone cannot get sound to work.

The latest Puppy does have a module... umm, I'm running Vector right now, but I think it is called "pcspkr" -- I don't know what it does, except that it is something to do with the PC speaker.

Freecom (Linux server on a floppy)
uses the internal speaker to play a tune

I have come across programs (for DOS)
that played complex wav type files
(these were speed dependent and
became gibberish as clock cycles increased

Now if Puppy played:
"and they called it Puppy Love" Conny Osmond?

This might be cute (the first few times)
NOW as Puppy moves towards Multisession
capability - that option can be turned off

In fact puppy becomes a configerable Puplet

Would this be the file:
/lib/modules/2.6.11.7/input/misc/pcspkr.ko.gz

who can get it to work?
Go Puppy Go!

I'd love to have a play with this, and try to get it working........but I'm only on 1.0.1 and it's not included in my package.

Will it work in 1.0.1 ( allegedly ), and if so can someone send me the file or point out a link to it .

Rich

<<EDIT>> found this.......sounds similar ftp://ftp.informatik.hu-berlin.de/pub/Linux/HU-Sound/ . I'll have a play sometime and let you know how I get on.
