setting up a Zip drive in Puppy

#1 Post by Walt H »

Is it possible to use a parallel port Zip drive in Puppy? For most Linux distributions I've tried, I got my Zip drive by typing 'insmod imm' at the command line, adding a line in /etc/fstab and creating the appropriate directory (/zip or /mnt/zip). Will that same procedure work in Puppy? Is the imm module included or is there an easy way to add it? Thanks.

Now that you point it out to me, the answer seems painfully obvious.

It's in there...

Try this. In rxvt, type in;

modprobe imm

Then see if the zip drive is recognized by using dmesg.

You should be able to add the modprobe imm command in /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Then it will be loaded at next boot. Change fstab, as necessary.
I love it when a plan comes together

Puppy now has the "modinfo" command also:

# modinfo imm

...tells you interesting stuff.
