WhoDo (and anyone else interested):

I've been with Puppy for years now, following Barry's blog, asking questions, trying to help answer questions when i could, and doing PR in my little world. You were one of the first people to respond to me and i've always respected your thoughts. I -- make that virtually everyone that uses Puppy -- appreciate your work, though we probably are unaware of the cost to you in terms of time, stress, and even money. (and THANK YOU!!!)

So--

You've been here longer than most everyone else and have staked a lot in Puppy. Do you really want to walk away from it all?

People need your wisdom regarding Puppy. This thing is GOOD, very good. Puppy thrives on its own merits, and you've had a hand in that. Puppy needs people like you to continue.

There is a difference between backing off and backing out. Not too long ago ttuuxxx said he was walking away. I'm glad he reconsidered and stayed on. I hope you likewise will reconsider after a break.

I sense that mostly ONE or TWO people are the cause of this. Too many people have a TON of respect for you; those one or two others will not diminish that respect. Sometimes, given enough rope, people will end up hanging themselves anyway. In the meantime -- better to simply ignore them. I MEAN JUST THAT -- to not bother responding, especially if you are getting angry. There are plenty of others to argue with them should they choose to.

Ecomoney -- honestly, you have made your points. Those in charge (Barry or whoever) will decide which points have enough merit to warrant consideration in future releases. If that's not enough, i suggest you make your own version of Puppy or Woof for your needs. If you can't code, then find others willing to build to your vision for you (and no, i'm not being a snob here, i can't code; i can only make remasters).

You once said you are a "street sort of guy" who tells it as he sees it. Remember that others see it differently and no one sees it perfectly. That's why we dialogue -- politely and respectfully, or not at all. To do otherwise will kill this thing. If that's not what you want -- you need to either learn to speak softly or quit posting.

Hey guys, I'm freaking out here. I am taking my first steps in Linux and all I can feel is gratitude. Puppy Linux was the thing that I needed to exist, although it took me a long time until I knew it. It "woke me up" from years of believing that I hated computers...

As a Linux rookie, I have always a feeling of inadequacy when posting messages, but maybe my "fresh" point of view can be of some utility here...

Reading all this controversy, a couple of ideas emerged in my mind:

a) Call me naive, but I can't agree a mentality that measures Puppy in terms of more or less Windows-like. "Windows is uncomfortable, so let's make Puppy as similar to it as possible". It doesn't make sense to me. I'd prefer setting the measurement in absolute terms: let's create an instrument as "transparent" as possible, something that interferes the least between a human being and what he wants to do (Windows is not precisely a model for that  ). Make people choose Puppy because it is the best, not because it is better that windows.
My point here has to do with ergonomics, epistemology and those high level issues, but I think that it could be benefitting to make a pause to clarify Puppy Linux's "philosophy" before rushing into the next version... I sometimes perceive a taliban-like hatred against M$ (me myself sometimes... ) that can lead to wrong decisions...

b) When suggesting improvements, in order to avoid all these human-too-human frictions, maybe the process could be made more anonymous? Why not a questionnaire page with entries: 1-Suggestion of improvement 2-Small comment (if necessary). That would eliminate the ego factor and would allow developers to impartially focus on what to implement better.

So those are my two cents. Like I said at the beginning, my feeling after getting to know Puppy Linux and all the people involved can only be GRATITUDE.

it's sad if whoodoo really quit... especially because if he really quit because just 1 user. I can understand if he quit because quarrel with other dev. but surely not with just 1 user.

I hope he just temporarily taking break, and will get back in time.

:D Hello,
Well, so much for unbiased opinion..
My 3rd and final post to ComputerBob..
As the rest were deleted...
ComputerBob Says:
June 13th, 2009 at 6:40 pm

Wow! Someone must have finally told the Puppy Linux support forum about this 6-week-old Journal entry — in the past few days, I’ve suddenly received (and deleted) several angry, personally insulting comments from people who claimed to be Puppy Linux support forum members.

Bob,
I was not angry or insulting, just trying to represent the other side of the story..
I have no personal dispute towards you, although it was upsetting that you repeatedly denied my comments..
There are two sides to every story…
But would you accept anything attempting to support Warrens position??
A man can only be “badgered

I won't say anything bad about Computer Bob because he is entitled to his opinion. However, if anyone has spent much time on other Linux forums they can tell that is his pattern.

Don't guess you need to be fair and unbiased if you have a blog..........

Nice package Ttuuxxx...perhaps you should include it in 2.14X under "System>Windows Emulator" to make our linux newbies feel at home

Ive just spent a marvelous weekend boating through York, and its given me time to think about everything.

I was going to launch into a massive post about how innaccurate WhoDo's interpretation of history and my part in it is....what would that achieve? Not a lot...him that protesteth too much and all. If this is the impression he wishes to communicate he obviously has his reasons for that, its up to the reader to decide if they are accurate, should they so care.

I dont want the forum to degenerate once more into another arms race about who can say the most discouraging or degrading thing about someone else , this would not help Puppies cause or mission (and I would probably just lose again!).

So sorry those who have tuned in to the latest episode of the Puppy Linux soap opera's, I must disappoint on this occasion. There is much work and much progress to be made for Puppy Linux to become even more successful than it currently is. There is a great need for this technology in the world and its "just not cricket" to detract from the worthy goal of fulfilling this need.

Did you know Puppy Linux now Installs easily onto...hard drive media

I`m so F@#$n mad right now..
(and I would probably just lose again!).

Lose??? One of the most helpful and nicest guys on this forum, and involved with Puppy, has left because of this B.S., and you smugly make that post?????
As someone who does EXACTLY the same thing as you, as so many of us do, quietly, I tried to respect your perspective, and viewpoint, and motives...I admired what you do, and am proud to do the same thing, (helping spread the Puppy word, and expand the Puppy world)....

But Dude, come on.............
Look at the big picture....Have you helped Puppy???
Gee, we`ve lost a great asset, had our forum name smeared, and have had our focus severely distracted by your, yes your, B.S....
How can you even post in this thread, with any sense of civility????
I`m having one of my brutally honest moments, due to personal issues, and I just dont feel like being nice ATM, so.....

You won, let it die....Leave WhoDo out of your future posts, NEVER mention the (great, helpful, just all around nice) mans name again...You have hurt the Puppy I love, (see avatar), and a man I greatly respect, and I am tired of it, again...
Seriously , quit "dogging" the man....
Please..............

Really,......
Please..........................................

pity

What a pity.

In 24 hours, there will be a help (and developer, if need be) forum at
help.puppy2.org

Those who want to help perfect and propagate the Puppy2 series are welcome to join.

Qualifications for joining: H H H
- be ready to help in short, clear, step-by-step fashion
- hack if you must (with K.I.S. in mind)
- be ever humble (that is, always speak highly of others or keep your silence)

Wow Raffy, your really into 2 series :) is this going to support 2.14.1X? also, remember it does use glibc2.5. Most apps should work, I've been trying Barry's latest 2.18 apps that he's uploaded to ibiblio in the 2 section just sort the list by the date and you'll have all the current ones :)

repo

#92 Post by raffy »

Hi ttuuxxx,

You already have access to the repo (see my PM). It is shared hosting, so there must be a way to minimize bandwidth usage, like separating zdrv_214R.sfs and pup_214R.sfs and updating only the 214R.sfs. Or use an ISO and then issue updates with xdelta.

Am getting tired of the "buggy" atmosphere here  , so perhaps I need a break. For a while maybe or for good - who knows?

As you said, with updated glibc, many things are possible with Puppy2. This can be helped by a Puppy2 help site.

Thank you very much for moving 2.14R forward. You are certainly welcome to use the new site.

Hi raffy, I posted a topic, but there isn't any file uploads? If we had a limmit like 5MB per file that would help. Also images, urls , etc look like they are missing, SMforum is a great forum, you also don't get any spam with it, you might want to look into it, I think its the best forum system going, way more secure/less spam than phpbb

uploading

#94 Post by raffy »

OK, the only extensions I can find are the BBcode buttons and Quick quote (select text to be quoted). No upload service yet, but that is good news as far as hosting is concerned. :)

I wonder if this is quite useful for collaborative uploads: http://drop.io/

After some time, the file can be put in the repo and the URL changed by an editor.

I still have to study SMforum. I've been convinced by PunBB because of its simplicity. The eeeuser.com site has been using PunBB since 2007.

I would remove that drop.io link from above, it froze FireFox real badly, the first known real error, I had to kill FF and then it killed JWM and I had to startx jwm to get back in.
