Puppy 4.2 Final

#1 Post by WhoDo »

Image

Both the Standard and Retro versions of Puppy Linux 4.2 (Final) are now available from ibiblio.org and will shortly be mirrored by our community servers. The standard version is 99.99Mb so it manages to uphold the Puppy tradition for standard releases being < 100Mb ... just! :P

Puppy 4.2 "Deep Thought" is the first Official non-CE version of Puppy without Barry Kauler making the final choices since its inception. The release has been a truly collaborative effort, as can been seen from the 4.2 Official Release Notes.

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every person that made a positive contribution to the development and testing of Puppy 4.2 "Deep Thought". I think the end result justifies all of the hard work and sleepless nights that went into producing this landmark version of Puppy. Well done, gang!

Puppy 4.2 Final

#5 Post by Roy »

If I may, I would like to make a quick observation or two here:

As I followed the discussions throughout the development threads, it became quite obvious just how much work and personal effort were spent by all involved to create this 4.2 Final edition for the public. A lot of tough decisions had to be made throughout the entire process, too... and I am thoroughly impressed by each and every member's contribution!

WhoDo, a special thanks goes to you for including a Retro version of 4.2 so quickly. I honestly didn't expect you to get that accomplished until much later. Thank you!

Hi,

In 4.2 Final..bcm43xx is still being a problem...for those of you who wants a workaround..just edit /etc/rc.d/MODULESCONFIG (line 33) delete the red word

PREFLIST=' rt2500usb:rt73usb ath5k:ath_pci orinoco_nortel:hostap_plx orinoco_plx:hostap_plx orinoco_tmd:hostap_plx orinoco_pci:hostap_pci bcm43xx:wl b43:wl b43legacy:wl ssb:wl prism54:p54pci r8169:r8101 rtl8187:r8187 '

and reboot, then go to network wizard and bcm43xx won't be loaded

Cheers

Just downloading 4,2 standard Final now, Really looking forward to using it, My heartfelt thanks to all the team. Its getting me nearer to ditching Windows which I still occasionally have to use (my scanner does not work with Puppy)

Dear All,

Not to blame anyone but when decided to use icewm's blinky and freememapplet 2 things happen:
1. blinky will not follow theme for background
2. the freememapplet still shows only part of what it supposed to show

so I made up a fix for any jwm users who wants it

thanks

Edit: changed freememapplet delay from 2 to 1 sec

The snapshot of the desktop looks beautiful -- that's going to create a very good first impression!

I'm downloading it right now.

Thats what I've been doing for the past 3 hours, look below :) also I have it restart with 'refresh Menus' so if blinky or freememory applet jumps off the taskbar, one click of 'refresh Menus' and it jumps back on :) Does your version do that also?

Hi Barry Check out Seamonkey, I used 5 different Seamonkey themes to put that one together, plus some coding to make them work and then I made a custom throbber with the puppy logo, its basically 20 pictures in animated Gif format :)
