Here is part of what Marc Kerbiquet emailed me about Zinc
> Would it be easy to include syntax for vala and genie languages?

I don't know these languages, but you can try to configure them with
the generic lexer.

The source code (in zinc) is available as an extra package of Code
Browser porject at sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/code-browser
but it is not required to build cb.

I'm not working on it. the last change was the unicode support.

Cheers,
Marc

Here's the latest Geany, The way I packaged it, it will be the default text editor, I had some issues with medit and so I compiled the latest geany version, please test it, because I also compiled the latest glade due to some other gtk error I was trying to fix. I don't think it will be a issue, since its not part of the deps for geany.

Here's the latest Geany, The way I packaged it, it will be the default text editor,
thanks Ttuuxxx
Click on the screen 'edit icon' or run 'geany' from the console
Does not change the menu.
Seems to work OK and will allow comparison with the excellent Nicoedit written in Vala or is it genie? Beta two has just been released of Nicoedit.

Which reminds me of a useful facility you rarely see in a text editor.
Vertical select.. This allows you to take out columns of space or add them in the middle of lists - nice facility. :)

Hi I was building a Xfburn-Gstreamer package on 415 and figured I might as well see what I can add to Jwm taskbar , So after a bit of messing around I managed to get XFCE calendar called "Orage" working and also the "datetime" clock working, and a configure switch that pops up, Its too big for puppy by default, but in the future maybe with vala or something we might have a nice little gui for the clock and a Calendar that shows the date as nicely as that one does.
below is a pic of the 3 new additions that I managed to getting working on jwm :)

well it looks like that Barry's next release he will have Cups working, So I'll pullout of 415 for the next few days until 416 comes to light and might give it a day or 2 for bugs to appear.

If anyone is interest in the clock, calendar, alarm on the taskbar, This is a complete package,(I hope),lol to start the clock you have to go to, /usr/bin/globaltime and click it twice, yes I said twice, its strange, thats why I can't make a full working package, because it has to be clicked twice. anyways this package is just for playing around with.
install it and restart JWM, I could probably reduce the package size by reusing puppies built in sounds like the bark sound for the alarm. Bu I don't see a need since it needs the double click, anyways I'm going back to 2.14.1X for a couple of days until 416 is released.

If anyone wants Searchmonkey to work, this is a temp fix, its a gtk package I compiled on 4.2 a few months back, its actually a tiny bit newer than the one in 415 and comes with the dev files if you want to compile, its all included.
just install gtk and the Searchmonkey package and it should work, if yu run it via command line you still get some errors, but its a bit better than the default, Hopefully Barry will upgrade gtk in the future and if not, I might have a stab at it.

If you actually WANT the citrus JWM theme, then you HAVE been eating too many pickled herrings! LOL... ;)

Puppy 414 and 415 alphas -- Kernel panic

#44 Post by zygo »

Puppy 414 and 415 alphas don't get to the desktop and give the same error:
"Recognising media devices... opticalKernel panic - not syncing: HwThreeWire(): CmdReg: 0XFF RE:WE bits are not clear!"
both caps and scroll lock keyboard LEDs are left flashing.
This is on my old pc (Celeron 1.8GHz 256MB RAM no HDD) and in the case of 415 booting from either IDE optical drive gave the same result.

Puppy 200 bare bones and puppy-4.2rc2-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey.iso get to the desktop with the same cd-rw disk.

The 4.2 and 414 ISOs get to the desktop on my newer PC.

Hi, ttuuxx,

Re: Orage. That looks great. Like you, I'm sitting tight for another version of 4.1.* and will try this neat-looking app then. I can't WAIT to get rid of Osmo, and this one makes the perfect replacement.

Many thanks again for your hard work,
Jake

In case you would like to broaden the acceptance of Puppy, beyond the circile of tweakers, I suggest to give more comprehensive names to the apps.

To me it still looks like hebrew, like mhWave Edit - audio recorder/editor.

A very simple change would be to change the menu in that sense that first you give the function of the app and then the name I suggest :

Audio recorder/editor - mhWave Edit.
Spreadsheet editor - Gnumeric
and so on

So that newcomers see right from the start what's what. To me it is still little bit confusing - xsane.

-----
Will there be a recycle bin or is "delete" "gone forever".

If so, it should be made very clear to newcomers. It is a pity that you only discover this after you've lost valuable documents, just by hitting the wrong button.
