Win98, Puppy, Ouickbooks, Dos

#1 Post by EarlSmith »

Since spring I have been looking for a Quickbooks replacement to use in Puppy. Also needed a MS office replacement with a database like Access.
So when OpenOffice 2.0 came along and I got it installed on Puppy 1.0.6, I was mainly interested in the new Database portion. After using it for a couple of weeks now, I believe it will replace MS office for me.
So the only program I need replaced is Quickbooks but I have found no equal replacement. But I found a workaround. I have Quickbooks 5.0 for windows that will work in Win 3.1 also.
So I have installed a dos partition and a linux partition on my main computer and a laptop. Both Puppy and Win 3.11 work equally fast and I now am pleased to be rid of win98.
Sometimes a step back in time can be a step foward in useability.

As reported in this thread, earlier versions of Quicken work under Wine. Might be worth trying Quickbooks.
