Browserlinux 77 Mb puplet with Firefox 3.5.7
This is a fantastic puplet - my favorite! It has brought my old Dell Latitude L400 back to a meaningful existence.
One suggestion - old laptops like mine often have a dead BIOS battery that isn't worthy and/or capable of easy replacement. If you could add a program that accesses internet time and changes the system clock (e.g., NTPDATE-sync_clock), that would be a great help.
Thanks

Great Puplet, but is it possible to install OpenOffice 3.1? I put the .sfs file in /mnt/home and it loads it, but it only shows "OpenOffice Impress presentation" and "OpenOffice Draw vector editor" under the Graphic section in the menu and when I click on either of them, they never load. Also, in /usr/local/apps there is no OpenOffice, which I thought there should be? Thanks.
Edit: Is it possible to change the speed of the mouse as well? It's kinda fast. I don't see an option for it in Mouse/Keyboard Wizard. Thanks again.

Install them all and you have... Puppy Linux
PGRS module seems to be broken, if anyone needs it for their modem it can be found here as a PET file:
http://voluntary-simplicity.org/linux/f ... rs-1.3.zip

Really nice. Trim and efficient
I like it! I don't use most of the apps in the official Puppy distributions, and so I generally use the 'barebones' derivatives. But I like Firefox, and want a few other apps. Browserpuppy is about the perfect balance for me.
I was at the VMware site, and they have a Browser "virtual appliance" that features Firefox under Ubuntu. The size is 258 Mb! What a hog! Puppy is the best base for VMware virtual appliances, I think.
Maybe I'll set up a VM with Browserpuppy and upload it to VMware.com

Hi,
I got this version to work with a Fujitsu Stylistic LTC-500 Tablet PC,
which has a 500 Mhz Celeron Processor and 256 MB RAM.
I used UnetBootin 3.57 to put the browserpuppy 4.9 onto a 128 MB
Compact Flash card and only changed in
syslinux.cfg
pmmedia=idehd instead of pmmedia=cd
Then browserpuppy booted from the CF card put via
an CF to IDE adaptor directly from the CF card and copied
all the OS to RAM and came up okay via Xorg 800x600x16 mode.
The only thing now is missing still is the FPIT touchscreen
driver .
Could this be still implemented or patched into this version ?
How ?
As I am still a newbie I don´t know much about it.
Also I would need a software onscreen keyboard to
just use the pen from the tablet.
How could this be achieved ?
Many thanks in advance.
Seems browserpuppy is going to be my next
"working os" for fast PCs only needing to go online..
Great work !
Regards, Stefan.
P.S: Here are 4 links where the FPIT drivers are discussed:
http://stochasticgeometry.wordpress.com ... in-ubuntu/
http://www.neurath.org/stylistic_lt_c500/index.html
http://www.grassmann.info/misc.html
http://www.l4a.org/StylisticLT.C-500.html
P.S: I just tried to get the Wireless Lan working,
but it is not working...
Everything I tried withWPA or WPA2 does not
work.
It does not get a WPA connection.
Keys are correct, I rechecked this several times.
I also used a Realtek PCMCIA WLan card, whose drivers
it found immediately and also a USB WLAN stick from X-Micro,
which drivers it found also immediately and it
can also see my Router and my Router ID;
but it can not make a WPA or WPA2 connection.
What could this be ?
I will try now a nonencrypted conection just for a test and let you know..
Many thanks in advance.

Yes, updating Firefox to 3.5.1 worked also for me.
I have achieved some slow WPA2 connections now via the X-Micro
USB WLAN stick I am using on a USB hub together
with a USB mouse and USB keyboard,
cause my Fujtsu Stylistic LTC-500 TabletPC
only has one nonbootable USB port.
Maybe the WLAN stick is slowed down by the
USB mouse and USB keyboard ?
The driver being used for the USB stick is
the ZDXXXXXrw driver
(Can´tremember now the exact driver name..
but it began with ZD... and ended with ...rw)
Well, I also tried with a PCMCIA card from Digitus,
the DN-7001GT/E
where it used automatically the Realtek RTL 8180
driver, but with this I don´t get a WPA2 connection at all...
So this one doesn´t work unfortunately, so
I couldn´t just use the USB port for the keyboard and mouse alone...
Hmm...what driver should I choose for it ?
It sees my router , but can not connect via WPA nor,
if I don´t use encryption...Damn..
Should I try different drivers for it ?
Please help.
Many thanks.
Would be also glad, if you could incorporate the
Boxee Multimedia Home Theater Viewer:
www.boxee.tv
and also a software keyboard and and FPIT pen controller
program.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Puppymartin,
which WIFI drivers did you include
in 4.9 ?
For Realtek cards, are these these patched ones ?

I didn't change the drivers. They are the same as in Barebones Pup 4.1.2 (or 4.1.2)hartiberlin wrote:Hi Puppymartin,

For my very old laptop I made a "speed menu". It turns off conky, blinky etcetera.
A bit like: Puppy Greyhound (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=33652)
Install the pet and then in terminal:
# fixmenus
# jwm -restart

Hi Martin,
please could you include also the virtual keyboard:
http://homepage3.nifty.com/tsato/xvkbd/
into browserlinux ?
And also FPIT , the touchscreen driver is really needed for my tablet PC:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/de/hardy/x11 ... input-fpit
Could you please include these or make a pet to install it ?
Also very cool would be a pet for boxee.tv or xbmc.org
Many thanks in advance.
