A Basket full of Puppies (A Pack of Wolves?)

If you're a software developer, you usually want one machine
for development, one or more machines for testing and one
machine for production. In a professional environment, this
isn't a problem. In a home environment, we usually have only
one machine for development, testing and "production". Simply
because we don't have enough money to buy the machines or time
to maintain them.

So we take unstable production environments and time-consuming
cleanups and rollbacks for granted. It's not perfect, but we
don't have a choice.

Yes, we do!

With QEMU-puppy [1], we can start one or more virtual machines
on top of our natively installed OS. Concurrently: the puppies
live side-by-side, in harmony.

So I decide to create 3 machines: a development machine, a test
machine and a production machine. The development machine and
the test machine are on my hard disk and the production machine
is on my USB memory stick. The development machine is basically
a clean QEMU-Puppy with usr_devx.sfs and a couple of my own
development tools. The test machine is a clone of the
production machine and is refreshed regularly. The production
machine is the one with the real, valuable data.

I went one step further and tried to overload my systems with a
lot of aggressive puppies. The 512 MB linux box could take up
to 8 puppies and survived. The 2 GB Windows box carried 16
Puppies and died with number 17...

It's just a story...

Erik,
Even with your excellent documentation, I have been unable to get Q-puppy to function. I must be missing something. However I found the QEMU software directly from the authors site works.

If yo do some more investigations, can you please let me know
which part of QEMU-Puppy doesn't work? Or which part of the
documentation wasn't clear enough?

(And if you do report, please include information about your
native OS (Which Windows version? Which Linux distribution?),
machine (especially memory), version of SysLinux (if you try to
boot natively), etc.)
