Soon I hope, But 2.14X is getting really good, I'm actually liking it a lot, more than any previous puppy, Well It Dpup didn't have so many bugs it would be the same the level, Just that your version is all gnomed up :) Nothing wrong with gnome, but I would rather get the base solid and then expand, Last time I visited Dpup, I had it pretty solid, after about a month of fixing things like the compiler, would probably be better to start from scratch since that was like alpha 3.
I would say probably about 1 month maybe a bit less, we almost have all the bugs ironed out of the next release, then its just a few last application/devx updates and by then should be finished for a bit.

Hi

This dpup is certainly quick. Just downloaded it. I notice I must use wget, through a browser it fails every time.

Nice first impressions, using my old P3 with 256. It seems the quickest pup so far on this thing.

Thanks

Cheers

Yes Mick thats what I was saying before 2.14X, Still I think on faster computers like mine, Dpup is faster, but it will take a lot more system resources than 2.14X, after bootup if you run htop, its using 32MB.
214Xis a fully functional non cutdown puppy :)
But for some reason Dpup always feels quicker, I really think we went wrong with Upup, I think that the full puppy support should of went to Dpup, it feels more stable also, The screen is so shaky.

1.) Uses sfs3
2.) Working gxine
3.) Pmusic replaced by Bmp (with extra skins)
4.) ffmpeg included
5.) Remaster now works
6.) Saves and closes down correctly now.
7.) Abiword and Gnumeric work now.
8.) Timezone setting fixed.

Much more to come and that gnome desktop and synaptic....

dpup-476b-2.6.27.4 will be up in a few hours, all versions at http://www.gposil.com/test/woof-alpha9/dpup/

Cheers
With all these announcements, I feel unsure which one to take.
Tried this one, as it seems to be the basis to continue on, unless gposil says otherwise.

Had an error message after boot. See pic.

Seems to be support for my dual processors (seen in htop)

But the very disappointing thing is the lack to support my second esata attached (in a bay) HDD. This seems to be a problem in other flavors as well. upup 466 does support the second HDD however.
The bad thing is, all my important data is on this second HDD.
So this dpup appears to be a show stopper.

Hey Beem, wasn't the last time you tried dpup on your pc you had a kernel panic, and this time your able to use it and even see both cpu's? And you call a simple little thing like a missing hard drive a show stopper, naaaaaaa come on, this is like 300X better than the last one you seen :) A real show stopper is a kernel panic on boot, as long as you can boot and go online really I don't consider it a show stopper, You still have functionality, It the past people 'One person in particular' comes to mind, lol about applications being a show stopper, the show doesn't stop because of of one or 2 faulty apps, really If the system freezes that should be a show stopper. lol really just pulling your leg :), I was bored waiting for ffmpeg to compile, lol Its all good.

The last dpup I tried was 014. As far as I remember boot was ok.
In the meantime tried a lot of things, but not being able to access your vital data, seems to be a show stopper to me. :P
Will try with acpi=off.
Compile ok?

Now tried the 29.4 kernel version.
Had to use acpi=off.
Get the kernel panic message now.

So apparently dpup doesn't suite my hw.

Downloaded and tried both kernel versions on my regular Linux machine. 800 mhz P3, 256 mb ram w/ 1 gb swap and Intel 82810 onboard graphics.

Both seem pretty quick and most everything works .......except XORG. Had to use xvesa with both kernels the only Puppy or Puplet where that has been necessary.

I'll test on some different equipment later.

Resolution Problems

#41 Post by davec51 »

I have used a great many Pups, including upup, but I never had this trouble.
I made a quick frugal from the iso, fixed menu.lst, and booted. When I got to the xorg wizard I chose the usual 12/7-ish resolution. What I got was a very low res, maybe 600/400. Nothing I could do would change that.
I have a Dell with a very cheap Intel video card, but as I said, all other Puppies work fine.

Ok...I have worked out Xorg problem...seems to only affect intel on board but now fixed...here anyway, I only have one pc with intel video chipset i845, and now seems fine...but obviously needs testing...also fixed problem with Xv video acceleration now seems ok too...

Anything worthwhile is never easy...but we'll get there

As to Béèm's problem with esata, looking at that now....

Do you want me to upload 476c with fixed Xorg, or wait until I track down esata problem....

Xorg Problem with Intel Card

I can wait. Meanwhile I'm eager to test out dpup. The Ubuntu repositories seem to abound in missing libs; otherwise, upup is a dream.

Dpup 476b 2.26.27.4

#44 Post by jduffy22335 »

I have installed the 2.6.27.4 b version via frugal. Iit is reporting:
zd1211rw: probe of 8-5:1.0 failed with error -2
The newer kernel 2.6.29.4 did not have this, as well as, most of the other derivatives that I have tried.
I used ndis wrapper to continue evaluating this otherwise good developement, keep the Dpup coming... Thanks

Sorry to report it did no resolve. Please continue the good work here, I can work with the NDIS driver. I would like to see this dpup move along and show how well it can really fly.

Hi jduffy22335,

have you checked whether the zd1211rw kernel module is loading...check in wizard wizard, puppy startup

zd1211rw module loading

The module appears to be loading and is not in the list of available modules, It does appear in the list of modules to blacklist, so I believe it is trying to load without success. Thanks.

Note: moved up to the dup476c version.

476 Solved My Problem

#49 Post by davec51 »

476c did the job: my Intel video card is performing at a high resolution and so far everything else is humming along. I haven't got to the Debian repository part yet.
Thanks, Gposil. Which of the two figures in your icon is you?

e-sata HDD in bay not seen

#50 Post by Béèm »

Thank you for the 476-C
I did boot with acpi actif and acpi=off.
In both cases I got the desktop, but with only the first sata HDD partitions.

The second HDD in the e-sata bay wasn't seen.

As my critical data is on this second HDD, at this stage, I can't use dpup 476.

upup 466 has no problems to see this second HDD.

Nevertheless, I have the impression that this dpup 476 has more performance. Feels quick.

I still have this JQ8flat doesn't contain mime type message/warning.
