Nvidia 9 series drivers for Wine in Puppy 4.2? [FOUND!]

#1 Post by XmodAlloy »

Hello
I am trying to get my machine to have the ability to run games on both operating systems I am using. I really like Puppy Linux, it's my favorite distribution I have found so far, and I am getting annoyed with windows. I am also a gamer, so I have been trying to get my games to work on Puppy Linux using wine, I have put on the direct X 9c mod onto the wine version, but it says my Display Driver is out of date.
so now I am trying to find drivers for Nvidia 9 series card I have that will work on Puppy 4.20.
Could anyone point me in the right direction? Or am I looking for something that doesn't exist?
Thanks in advance.

perhaps try tipsy puppy

Thanks for the links, I will see what I can do with them.
My goal is to be able to play Left 4 Dead with my friends on Linux, so that I at least have one cool multi-player game on my Linux. L4D is based off of Valve's Half-Life 2, which I have seen people get working in wine.
I'm not sure how well I can switch to a different version of puppy, when I installed this one, I accidentally installed Grub to both of my hard drives, one with windows and one with Linux, and I have no idea how much they depend on each other now. I'm worried that if I erase the puppy I have and everything on that hard drive that I won't be able to boot up my windows again. I need to unplug my Linux hard drive and test, but I have been lazy today.
Thanks again.

puppyluvr wrote: Wine

For "Click and Run" capability on .exe files, you must install the

Wine mime type for Rox Pup from:

http://puppylover.netsons.org/dokupuppy/programs:wine

Many useful things for Wine there....

Meantime, look in /root for .wine (thats "dot"wine, a hidden file , click the eyeball..) your Wine stuff is in there....

Thanks, forgot about booting off CD.
I really wish there were more information on Linux, and Wine, but I guess Linux is the least popular operating system, most people are just too arrogant to even try something that's free. they think "If it's free, it's crap." which is really sad in my opinion. If more people used Linux, I wouldn't have any issues finding drivers.
guess that's what I get for being willing to try things.
thanks again.

FOUND DRIVERS!

YES! I got not only HL2 and L4D working, but Synergy, TF2, Portal, and basically any source game to work!
I will make a new thread on the drivers I found.

Cool, & well done!

If you can link it to a few games forums maybe we can win over a few more lost souls who think free is crap

Free is Fun!

Yes, I might do that.
I think I should make a tutorial on getting games working on puppy actually, but I am rather new to this forum and don't know what section to put it, otherwise I would have already
But once I do that, I will link that around.
