New Wiki needs editors

Just got this email from Raffy
Hi Ed,

Good news - I've set up puppylinux.org/wikka (same URL since 4 years
ago :). You are the admin:

You can decide on and insert the categories and then we can fill in
with the relevant pages from pupweb and Drupal wiki.

It looks like upgrading pupweb.org/wikka will take too much time and
trial-and-error (we are many upgrades away), so I made a fresh
install.

Cheers.

Raffy
Good news - I suggest Coolpup is also made an admin
he does a great deal of work on the Drupal wiki site

Initial suggestions
register and familiarise
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/UsingThisWiki

eh -it's a wiki start editing . . . :D

Lobster is the big fish (super admin) so please make it known here that you want to share admin work. Do I get it right that admins can upload files (the settings say so)?

EDIT after Lobster's post (see below): OK, will wait for Lobster's email of names to be included as admins.

--------------------------------------
So much to share, so little time.

Hi raffy,

I have created a wiki name for CoolPup

but I think only you can make him an admin like so:
http://docs.wikkawiki.org/WikkaAdmin

If not how do I make other admins? :)

OK

OK, so that's the way to do it. CoolPup is now admin and you can send more names in my inbox. Thanks!

Have sent Coolpup a private message

The new wikka wiki is a good community site for Puppy Linux, and we expect most contributors to be writing there.

To somehow blend it with the other sites, I've tried changing the colors and logo to hues of blue. Comments are welcome.

That must be hidden code. :D

You're too quick - it shows that you've been up all the time attending to the wiki.

Yes, that code showed up - I wrongly posted it outside the PHP code (it must be posted inside). But it showed for a minute or two only.

Now only one line remains at the bottom. This is the usual HTML check (the editor can check his/her page with that) and the backlink to the WikkaWiki site.

We hope to go online with the new wiki by the end of this month. Thanks for your efforts.

thanks raffy

the spammer bots are already here
(that is why we need more admins for a wiki)
already deleted spam comments
now notice a lot of gmail accounts have registed as users with what seem like real names, repeated twice.
So if you are a genuine register with a name like BarryBarry
with a gmail address and you have disappeared
- eh that is the reason 8)

this will be the new wiki

For everyone's guidance, we are moving information from Drupal (including the Drupal wiki) to the new news site and wikka wiki. The relevant discussion is here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=44576

News and articles should go to the news site and manuals and documentation should go to the wikka wiki.

Apologies to everyone if this was not made very very clear. We've been having outages because of the "heavy" nature of the Drupal CMS as implemented at the site, so we are moving to light-and-fast version of things.

Prit is putting finishing touches to a "Puppy Dynamic" that will take in screenshots, puplets and comments. This will be useful for many ordinary users.

Most contributors should find the wikka wiki a good place to post technical information.

The new Wikka Wakka Wiki install has been unacceptably slow and often gives a different Query Failed errors depending on the page I'm trying to load but has (MySQL server has gone away) at the end.

What specifically would/could cause problems upgrading the (mostly) original wiki?

pages

Some pages may not be there yet as Lobster is doing the transfer manually.

We're several versions away from the most recent one, and I doubt a really clean upgrade.

Both Drupal and WikkaWiki employ URL rewriting, so that is one possible reason for problems, as Drupal is in the root directory.

Anyway, Lobster has done a lot of page editing, so let's hear from him about his own experience.

EDIT: Something strange is happening at the site right now. Will get back here soon.

Hello,

An admin is different from a regular Wiki contributor right? It's like the Wiki equivalent of a forum moderator?

I would like to contribute to the Wiki, but I'm still trying to make sense of it... Call me dense, but I still don't understand everything about it. :?

Edit:
but I'm still trying to make sense of the Wiki...

May I recommend Wikibooks.

:D Thanks for the link Darrelljon, but it doesn't quite cover what I meant. I suppose I should have made myself a little more clear, what I don't understand is how a Wiki works, mostly the terminology and arranging of pages.

quick

A wiki is quick to use. Type the name of the page on the URL (preferably CamelCase) and the page is done! Next you edit it using simple, intuitive markup.

Many people can edit a page so the page is always uptodate. But the owner is in control through ACL (access control), so you can set editing to yourself only or to all registered users (not good to let the general public edit it).
