you2pup needs gtkdialog

Not usable in Pulp (4.1.2) or Basiclinux.
gtkdialog has dozens of dependencies.
Nice to have a choice of You2pup, youtube-dl,
gtk-youtubeviewer, and movgrab.

Requires X.
Can I use yt-download.sh CLI and pipe to mplayer
rather than starting the download and then typing
mplayer /path/to/*.3gp?
mplayer works in framebuffer.
I don't know how to pipe it to mplayer

Version 2.4: Changed how to get "video code" AGAIN - Zigbert's URL example, page 14
But still get error 403 for some urls. Maybe because of the encrypted signature thing or because it's a https. yt-download.sh can't handle

Version 2.7.2: with URL catch button, to easily fill video id box (appears only if using firefox (mozilla) on current opened YouTube window). Works with firefox in slacko 6.3

Version 2.7.4: - Bugfix - when checking if output file exists
Ver .a: supply video id box with the only opened YouTube window. If 2 or more, than it will supply video id of first opened YouTube window

Version 2.7.5:
GUI:
- Decided to go with b version which give multiple urls if available in firefox data
- Have to open at least 1 FIREFOX tab/window of Youtube video to make button appear
- Non FIREFOX user can still usse it by copying & pasting video_id
- Now list with title to make user easy
- give info if url(s) is not yet ready in firefox data
Script:
- wget only, no curl
- still can be used in many distros as stand alone cli app (dependecies: bash, wget, dialog)
- Now can grab .webm also

In earlier days pMusic used you2pup to play youtube music. I have put this on the wishlist for pMusic 5.2.0
I see some bigger youtube grabber offers to search youtube. Do you have any future strategy?
Thank you for your code

Version 2.7.7: GUI - add firefox search button, so user can launch you2pup before opening firefox. on its first search launch, you2pup window will close and re-open in 10 secs (to give time for firefox to open if slow connection), remeember the catcth url button only appears if at least 1 firefox youtube window is opened and focused
Other browsers still can copy and paste as usual

Hi Sigmund
I was thinking the same thing. like a standalone app that search and download youtube without a browser. That's a bit "too much" for gtkdialog, bash and my brain
Anyway, I keep digging

Version 2.7.8: I changed the download script to a modified perl script from
https://calomel.org/youtube_wget.html , the bad thing is that it doesn't give options to download, only mp4 by default ( you may change the script to download other format. but only1 at a time). I will try to convert it to bash so that I can easily suit it to my needs. I don't know any perl Very Happy . at least it works on my slacko 6.3.0 with its perl

Suggestion:
- Update VID field in the main window when clicking on a thumb in the search window
- Activate search when pressing enter
require you2pupsearch to run in the background - adding an '&' at the end of the line
Code: Select all
exec rxvt -bg "blue" -fg "white" -title "you2pup" -e you2pupsearch "$TERMS" &
The timer updates the VID field instead of the button
Code: Select all
<window title="You2Pup 2.8.2" width-request="500" allow-grow="false">
<vbox>
<frame Puppy YouTube Downloader>
<vbox>
<pixmap><input file>/usr/share/pixmaps/you2pup.png</input></pixmap>
<vbox width-request="400">
<timer milliseconds="true" interval="200" visible="false">
<action type="refresh">MSG</action>
<action type="refresh">VID</action>
</timer>
</vbox>
<hbox>
<entry visible="true">
<variable>TERMS</variable>
<input>echo "Type search terms here"</input>
<action signal="activate">search</action>
</entry>
<button tooltip-text="Search YouTube" visible="true">
<input file stock="gtk-zoom-in"></input>
<label>Web search</label>
<action>search</action>
</button>
</hbox>

version 2.8.3: Gui - enable multiple downloads
- No_browser: auto refresh VID when clicking pic when searching
Done Sigmun, thanks

Sigmund,
The auto fetch vid will make old fashioned copy-paste impossible
I will think of something, or maybe a suggestion?
