MuPDF

#1 Post by mikeb »

Came across the MuPDF library being developed as a replacement for ghostscript etc..details here

http://ccxvii.net/apparition/

There are sources and windows binaries so far.

I also tried this

http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/

which uses the MuPDF engine and renders several TIMES faster run on wine in puppy compared to epdfview....

The firefox plugin is pretty neat too but windows only so far.

Definately a development worth considering for future puppies.

ePDF is not very good. The reason we use it is that it is ultra-lightweight as far as pdf viewers go.

Well the reason i posted is because MuPDF has the compactness of ePDF but the speed of ghostscript with quality rendering.

Ok, sounds cool, who will try first? We need to compile Fitz, Mupdf and Apparition, and to do that we need Jam, and I'm not sure what tool we use to download the source for that http://public.perforce.com:8080/@md=d&c ... src/?ac=83
And to download it we seem to need either some other unknown tool, or Darcs, which we need a Haskell compiler for...

Ok

can this thread be moved to 'additional software' as its's obviously beyond the scope of linux developement...apologies for my non technical mistake.

If anyone is looking for a fast compact pdf viewer and is running wine then here is a good candidate
