How to restart the window manager

#1 Post by bemused »

I've downloaded and run puppy linux using Windows and run it on a bombed pc successfully, but I need to connect to the internet with it.
Have connected it with a steam modem and run setup, which tells me a dial-up icon is now on the desktop, but I need to restart window manager to do this.
Q: How do I restart window manager, folks?
Thanks.
be glad of an email with this advice to john.moir@virgin.net.
but by all means post the answer here too, for the benefit of a wider community of thickos!

If the WindowManager has no option for this in the menu, do it the "hard" way:

Hit "CTRL-ALT-Backspace".
This stops the X-Window-System.

Then type "xwin" to start it again.

Thanks Mark-that did the trick - a dial-up icon did appear. I couldn't connect, but that'll be another story, I guess.

right click the icon.
"edit item".
It shows you the comand that will be executed when you click it.

Open the "Console"-window.
run this comand from there.
This will show you more detailed error-messages.

Select them with the mouse, and click in a forum-post with the middle mousebutton to paste them.

Then someone might have an idea.
