rjbrewer, please try 1.2-6

anyway, cpu usage will always be higher when using pstreamvid than puptv, tha is because it's still using conditionals for autodetect - on off fullscreen and mplayer/gxine. Though I hardcoded the commands (mplayer and gxine), will be lighter if I only choose to use gxine, but that's not what we want, right?

The main thing is not to freeze the computer when quitting or changing channels

thanks

1.2.6 the same.

My laptop isn't freezing, but my pc probably will.

Why does pstream need at least 60mb more ram to run the
same channel as puptv?

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

the logic is like this;

puptv - straight to executing mplayer
pstreamvid - conditionals mplayer or gxine, conditonals on or off fullscreen, then executing the command

Maybe putting exec in front of the command will help, I pet up another one for testing - will call it, 1.2-7

1. In BoxPup 4.1.3:
Uninstalled the older version of Pstreamvid, rebooted, installed the new version 1.2-6
SUCCESS!
At "Quit" CPU usage jumps to 100% for only a few seconds, and then drops to a low value.
Image quality is much better in BoxPup than in Puppy 4.2.1-rc3.
Only remaining problem is video window slightly off-screen.

2. Installed the older version [1.2-2?] in Puppy 4.2.1-rc3.
I'd say it was worse there than in BoxPup.
Gxine behaved well, but no video in most channels.
Mplayer had video in all channels, but image quality was low, and video window slightly off-screen.
Problem at "Quit" with CPU usage jump to 100% and remaining there.

Okay;

1.2-8 is a big improvement.
Only using about 30mb more ram than pup-tv instead of 60.
Cpu drops down in about 10 seconds insead of 20 or more.

Watching a channel on delicast.com uses same ram as pup-tv.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.

BoxPup 4.1.3
Uninstalled Pstreamvid 1.2-7
Installed 1.2-8
Rebooted
With the exception of Mplayer window slightly off-screen, all is looking good; none of the previous problems.

Puppy 4.2.1-rc3
Uninstalled Pstreamvid 1.2-3
Installed Pstreamvid 1.2-7
Refreshed menus, then rebooted.
After playing a couple of channels, "Quit" took 12 sec.
After playing all channels, "Quit" took 60 sec.
PROBLEM!
Firefox wouldn't run.
Rebooted into BoxPup and deleted the Puppy 4.2.1-rc3 files off the Flash Drive, then restored backup copy made immediately prior to 1st install of Pstreamvid.
Will have another go at installing 1.2-8 from new [no previous install].

Rjbrewer,

Now we're talking :lol:..we're on a right track I think.. It will always uses more RAM than puptv for reasons I stated earlier. But, if it doesn't make problems, then I'll live with it.

Sylvander,

Mate, try using clean boot, pfix=ram and install v 1.2-8

See what happens anyway, what's your system spec?

I spoke a little too soon. After trying to play a few channels
without completely restarting, the system locked up tight.
Had to resort to a forced power off.

Good idea;

I usually only use gxine for dvds', because mplayers often skip
the opening menu on dvds'.

Gxine uses a little more ram than mplayer and has a more
cluttered window.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.

1. Puppy 4.2.1-rc3
Installed: mplayer-1.0rc2-071007-1->rebooted.
Installed: Pstreamvid-1.2-8->rebooted.
Pstreamvid runs OK, and channels play and display OK, BUT...
Unable to move video display windows to fully on-screen; "Alt+spacebar",M can not be used to move the window [Alt+spacebar mutes the audio]; nor can "Alt+middle button" move the window [it re-sizes the window].
Anyone know which key combinations do the necessary?
Firefox runs, but takes all of 2min 10sec just to get to the "Restore previous session?" dialog.
Also takes ages to close Firefox windows.

2. Will attempt a clean boot of Puppy 4.2.1-rc3 ASAP.
Never done that with Puppy booted from Flash Drive and WakePup2 bootable floppy.
Hope it's simple enough.
Only ever done that with a Puppy "live" optical disk.

Ok,

At this time I am in Slaxer_pup with JWM-456 (compiled for Slaxer_pup) installed. No issues with older Gxine. 8) . Fullscreen default :D . (Slaxer_pup is entirely 4.1.2, only the kernel is changed to 2.6.27.7)

Cheers

1. Puppy 4.2.1-rc3
Booted live CD with pfix=ram.
Installed mplayer.
Installed Pstreamvid.
Refresh menus.
Ran Pstreamvid; no change to version loaded using Puppy 4.2.1-rc3 on Flash Drive.

Seamonkey takes 26 sec to load [due to optical disk being used?]
Pstreamvid loads in about 2 sec.
BBC = 4 sec.
Fox11 = 4 sec
France24 = 3 sec.
NASA = 4 sec.
SkyNews = 2 sec.

2. My hardware:
Compaq Deskpro EN made 1999
797 MHz Coppermine CPU, 256 MB RAM.

3. Will try v1.2 ASAP.

2 small niggles.

pet.specs is being left in /

When 'installed pet' menu appears, there is the usual installed to many menu entries. I found this to be a problem caused by - instead of _ in the pet name.

Did you see Barrys message in his blog to you?
