Install Puppy from a USB Flash drive with no CD drive Subject description: This is covered in several places on this forum |
|
Just to save time, here's the overview:
1. Create a bootable USB Flash drive with Puppy and boot up your computer
2. Assuming you want to wipe the hard drive, use GParted (I think in the menu under System) to re-format the drive to ext2 format.
3. After formatting the drive, set the "boot" flag, also using GParted.
4. Use the Puppy Linux Universal Installer to install Puppy to the hard drive. I think it will also install the Grub bootloader, and maybe even configure the menu.lst file appropriately so it will boot properly.
That may be it.
Here's a long description of how to make a bootable USB flash drive with a Puppy Linux "frugal" install.

Here's a clever way to make a bootable USB drive using syslinux.exe and the contents of the Puppy liveCD.

try Netbootin from Windows. It is really easy and it takes images from cd or ISO files directly to your USB drive. I guess it is better to format it first.
