What's a good small color printer?

#1 Post by jooney »

What is a good color printer with a small footprint? I currently have a big HP printer that does not fit in the new cabinets we just installed. I'd like to be able to put a printer on the shelf so it's out of sight. The shelf is about 12" deep, 24" wide, and 8" tall. The printer I'd want would be a high quality photo printer, but doesn't need to be top of the line on the photo printing.

Hi jooney I would first go to ebay and have a look at the printers/features/prices, Then I would make a list of possible candidates.
Then I would do a google search like "Linux Canon pixma 2120" <--- always use the model number, then you have a good idea if there is even a linux driver for it.
When I bought my last printer I first searched ebay for "ciss printer ink"
http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?_nkw=cis ... &_osacat=0
Then I had a good idea of which model to choose from, I like a continuous ink supply, I mostly print B&W some colour but not much, If I have a photo I need printed I just go up to the shop and pay $0.20 each

Oh by the way css ink system are kind of hard to fully get working, usually you have to cut the printers plastic case, and shorten the ink supply lines, if not you'll get air in the lines.

Before you buy a printer, go to:

http://www.openprinting.org/printer_lis ... ake=Anyone

and make sure your intended purchase is listed in either of the first two columns.

Hey muggins what a excellent list !!, I didn't know that there was one like that, very good, maybe get it as a sticky or maybe it should be a link at the puppylinux.com website because that is really helpful.
