PostPosted: Tue 08 Sep 2009, 16:54    Post subject:  Request Broadcom STA driver for 412 retro, kernel 2.6.21.7
Subject description: Broadcom 4312 (BCM4312) 802.11b/g 14e4:4315 STA Binary Driver

In this thread, I am unable to get newer kernel puppy to recognize my hard drive on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10, so I'm using puppy 412 retro with the 2.6.21.7 kernel.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=46253

The driver posted in the sticky thread for 2.6.25.16 kernels will not work.
I tried compiling the driver in puppy 412 retro for the wifi card from this source.
http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php
It compiled without errors, but doesn't load because of following error:
"unknown symbol"

So, I'm requesting if someone could please try to compile and post this driver so that users with this Broadcom card can get it to load and appear in the network wizard.
I'm not sure if I need a complete PET/pup install, maybe the compiled "wl.ko" would be enough to get this card to go online.

Thank you,
Jon

I extracted this to /lib/modules/2.6.21.7/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
I went to this dir and I tried
modprobe wl.ko
FATAL: Module wl.ko not found

then I tried
insmod wl.ko
insmod: error inserting 'wl.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module

That's the error I was getting with the module I compiled yesterday.

That loaded it. It is available in network wizard now! Smile
Thank you very much.
I'll try to get my connection working now. Smile

This module brings up the eth1 button and access to the wireless buttons in network wizard, but that's as far as it goes.
When scanning for wireless networks in the network wizard, it detects none.
Using this same mini-10 netbook under windows XP, the scan finds my AP and 2 other wireless networks near my house.

I'm going to open another thread in the correct sub-forum, since the original post was a request to compile the module.
EDIT: Link to other thread.
