Though, right now I'm running 4.3final built with 2.6.25.16 kernel. I haven't yet checked with the 2.6.30.5 kernel.

I found 2 bugs:
- my iso comes with pup_425 and the instalation asked for pup-425, after rename the file all works fine,
- language of Brazil and Portugal is portuguese not brazilian,
the network wizard recognizes my card but then hardly founds my network... weird!

re: CUPS extra drivers - SOLVED
@8-bit
Thanks for your 19:58 16sep09 msg re:Starting CUPS from Menu - Much Obliged!
This does indeed start cups_shell & bring on all the drivers.
I've been accessing cups via http://localhost:631/ too long
My CanonS520 using native S500 driver can print to local printer & network pup425 & WXP printers. Converted OpenOffice-3.0.sfs does not inhibit smb Win-printer selection. All is now very AOK
My original message has been amended & marked SOLVED

WPA2 passkey gets cut off if containing forward slashes
In the puppy network wizard when trying to configure wifi and wpa2, when I paste in my 63 character passphrase and save it, it comes back truncated; for example if I enter:
abc/defg/hijklmno
it comes back as:
hijklmno
Needless to say it won't connect. The 'old' network wizard doesn't seem to have this problem, but it won't connect either, so I suspect it IS having some problem with a passphrase containing forward slashes in the background.

For 4.3beta3, the file in the iso is pup-425.sfs, not pup_425.sfs.T_Hobbit wrote: - my iso comes with pup_425 and the instalation asked for pup-425, after rename the file all works fine,
Something is wrong with your system if it is reading a '-' as a '_'
...but, that does ring a bell, I do recall encountering that phenomenon once, don't recall the circumstances.

4.3Beta3 SCSI Audio
Without installing any audio the Console beeps as expected.
Using ALSA after install drivers for CS4236 the Console
no longer beeps and attempts to play music fails.
Upon shutdown the system crashes.
Rebuilding system from scratch works OK even after reboot.
When ALSA adds CS4236 audio driver it does not complain
and at reboot the system crashes with a full screen of
text. It clears very fast but says something about "trace"?
or, something about eth0: being set to full duplex then if
this message is seen the system locks up.
-Thanks
If System_Crash Then
echo "Have a cup of Coffee" ; goto Get_Puppy_Help
else echo "Life is Good" ; goto Sitback_and_Enjoy

I have noticed that ALSA seems to be running BEFORE ALSA Wizard is run.
If you do not run it, at least in my case, I have sound working in all applications that require it.
I seem to remember a line in the ALSA Wizard that said to make sure ALSA was not running before running the Wizard.
Could that be the cause of the crashes and strange behavior?
Maybe check and see if it is running and kill it before starting ALSA Wizard?

Need to have one of the experts weigh in but your idea makes sense. All of the different alphas and betas as well as the final all had sound working out of the box, so I never encountered needing to configure the sound.Tried today with the final and..........drastic memory drop.
Could it be as simple as alsa already running? I didn't think of that one.

I did not burned a cd-rw. I had unzipped to my multi-Puppy-pen with IZArc (Windows). Probably the program see "-" as "_"...BarryK wrote:For 4.3beta3, the file in the iso is pup-425.sfs, not pup_425.sfs.T_Hobbit wrote: - my iso comes with pup_425 and the instalation asked for pup-425, after rename the file all works fine,

8-Bit , James C,
I have a newer machine with a SoundMAX card that gets detected OK without any setup required. And a virtual machine that emulates a ES1370 card that appears to work.
Perhaps the older CS4236 driver is stepping on an I/O address, Interrupt or some such disturbing Linux causing it to crash at shutdown.
The same machine with the CS4236 runs Windows XP fine.

I had previously downloaded pup425-scsi.iso and it had locked up on booting at "Loading Kernel modules to access drives.."
I then compiled a module under pup-425.iso (still beta 3) and Puppy locked solid on trying to insert the dc395x.ko module.
So I got to thinking.
I have an Adaptec scsi card and so I pulled the TekRam scsi card and replaced it.
That was the problem. Evidently the driver for the TekRam card did not like to play well with the new kernel.
Puppy 43 scsi kernel 2.6.30.5 booted and seems to be working fine.
I guess that will teach me not to use an off brand scsi card!
As to booting from a SCSI drive, all I have to play with is a 250meg zip drive. Since I do not want to mess up my booting of my SATA drive, I will not experiment with booting from the scsi zip drive without a lot of hand holding.
