Found this video, announcing upcoming Google Wave, demo-ing it's open source browser based capability, including real time messaging/graphics sharing/translation & international interface & loads more

http://wave.google.com/

I've already linked to Technosaurus's Web Desktop thread, and wondered if anyone would be interested in developing this for Puppy users

developer link here

http://code.google.com/apis/wave/guide.html

Being browser based this obviously is cross platform....which is way cool IMHO

Great collaborative functions
Could this be a way forward for Puppy development itself, as a cool way of keeping tabs on bugs/update/patching?
Extensions to Wave seem similar in application to those for Firefox, and being open source the potential is mind boggling.....

They are now opening up Google Wave for new users. I was just wondering if anyone here is using it yet and if so what do you think about it and could you please send me an invitation? Smile

How do you draft an agreement that involves a software development work on Open Source? I'm drafting an agreement with a client that wanted us to develop a software on top of a Open Source software. Meaning, we will develop new modules on the existing open source software.

If you develop on top of software which is open-source(GPL), then what you add comes under the same license and the sources must be made available under the same terms as the original code.

Artie

I was in Wave a while back
but struggled to find anything that was more than
enhanced/simplified/prettified gmail . . .

Hope someone sends you an invite - and if I ever get back in it
(forgot how I got in there)
will send you one Cool

After looking at compiling Chromium (Google Chrome for linux) I have serious misgivings about Google's privacy policy. I understand that Chromium is still very much in the development phase, I don't understand why the alpha code forces the build to "phone home". It does this mid build and also from the finished browser. Very uncool bananas.

I think I personally will give anything Google related a miss until they clean up their act, with the exception of their browser (and i am keeping a cynical eye on that too.)

Hi Lobster. I would guess that it would gradually take over from IRC but be no threat to these kinds of forums. I'm still waiting...

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and will continue to say this:

Google is the Microsoft of the new millenium. And mark my words - the evil of Microsoft that people perceive pales in comparison to that of the spawn of Brin and Page.

Well, personally, Jeff.....

Because google supports open source projects and this forum would be dire without the 'wellminded' googlesearch, I feel far less trepidation about using it than M$, and it IS useful, IMHO

http://code.google.com/

There's also research into making the browser faster

http://blog.chromium.org/2009/11/2x-faster-web.html

Google also has helped, I believe to stop runaway license varieties from spoiling the licensing thing for developers

What exactly do you have, as a personal experience, against it?

I'm just curious - did you suffer some data-mining experience/have a visit from the Feds or something...? Laughing

...and why just Brin & Page....do you know them from college or something....did they steal your code....?

At last....

I got my invite, only to find out that there are now 2 google waves

The original developer sandbox, and a new consumer version....

& yes, I got the consumer invite - & it's still evolving/in development, with many features from the video in my first post not implemented/working yet

....but there's hope - for the adventurous

Ralf Rottmann* wrote:
One of the key aspects of Google Wave is its federation architecture. Much as email is distributed across hundreds of thousands of distributed servers, implementing standards as POP3, SMTP and IMAP, Google Wave servers are designed from the ground up to support federation, too.

Not only does this allow third parties, including open source initiatives, to come up with their very own implementation of Google Wave servers, it also facilitates (corporate) security, scalability, innovation and, I’m sure sometime soon, hosted offerings.

Anyone else tried Wave yet...?

I still see a potential for collaboration on Puppy's documentation and creation of a searchable database of the forum posts/puppies/puplets/pets etc

Featuring multi-user input/translation/upload/filesharing/linking/commenting/messaging etc

- there is great potential here

Anyone else fancy this?

Thanks Lobster looking forward to trying it! Biggest obstacle will be to try finding something sensible and interesting to say... Smile

Ribbit announced its conferencing and voice message gadgets have been selected as featured extensions for Google WaveTM. Built using a mash-up of the Ribbit REST API and the Google Wave APIs, the two extensions will enable rich, dynamic voice collaborations for participants within a live Google Wave environment.

The first featured gadget is Ribbit Conference, which enables real-time audio collaboration between participants in a wave. Seamlessly integrated into the flow, look and feel of Google Wave, Ribbit's Conference gadget turns a wave into an actual conference where people can talk as well as type. Persistent in the wave, it allows any participant to:

* Create an audio connection with multiple Google Wave participants
* Add non-Wave participants to the session
* Mute, hold or disconnect any of the individual participants from the stream

"Video chatting in Wave was a top requested feature," said Lars Rasmussen, Engineering Manager at Google. "The 6rounds extension brings another level of collaboration to Google Wave and we're excited to see how people use it."

TheNextWeb.com says in a blog article, "In reality 6rounds has taken everything we've seen in the Instant Messaging space to the next level and delivers an unprecedented, emotionally engaging and fascinating experience which is so much fun, you have to try it yourself."
TechCrunch.com notes in a recent article, "6rounds is not just a mere destination site and wants to enable users to interact socially in real-time regardless of what their favorite social network is."
