Lightweight panel that lets you rearrange taskbar entries? |
|
Hi,
Does anybody know of a relatively lightweight panel that allows you to rearrange programs in the taskbar, like you've been able to do on Windows for years with programs like "Taskbar shuffle"? (N.B. I am talking about the taskbar entries for programs that are running, not buttons that launch programs).
Thanks.

Ah - good things come to them that wait.
It seems most wishes eventually come true in the Linux world if you wait long enough and keep your eye out.
There's a greatly enhanced version of lxpanel with this ability:
http://code.google.com/p/lxpanelx/
It also has the one bug fixed that was annoying me in lxpanel...

Hmm, the page you link to is almost totally information-free. No description or anything. The wiki is nonexistent.
So does lxpanelx allow you to rearrange the programs in the taskbar the same way I can rearrange the tabs in a SeaMonkey window, by dragging them? I've sometimes wished I could do that to the taskbar.

Yes, basically it gives you a whole lot of options, and that's one of them.
I couldn't really find any information on it either, so I just installed it to see
I'm running Arch, so I don't have a Puppy package for you

Tint2 has this feature. It does not, however, have most other features a lot of people expect

Hello, disciple.

Hm... an unfaithful disciple? The answer depends of course on whether you're more of an Archer or more of a Puppyist...
No package, really? Since the programmer doesn't have a source tar of his/her work available, out of gratitude , you could do him / her a favor and reupload his source tarred or 7zipped... And leave a copy here on the way over? Just a lazy thought on my part.
In answer to your first question, the regular lxpanel already offers the ability to move the applets around.
Please try this:
Right-click on the panel -> click Panel Settings -> click on the Panel Applets tab. In this tab, the last two buttons on the lower right are for moving the applets up and down in the list (this means left and right on the actual panel).
TWYL.

No, I was actually talking about reordering programs in the task list, not reordering the panel's proprietary applets.
Every panel I've tried that has applets allows you to reorder them. I actually don't really like applets - I'd prefer they used standalone programs like retrovol that put themselves in the system tray, so you can use the same ones regardless of which panel you use.

Presumably if they wanted to release a snapshot of the source they would have... so I don't think they'd consider it a favour.

Oh, I guess I might as well.

Oops, I guess I meant system tray when I said taskbar in my post above. I don't know the difference.
Anyway it would sometimes be nice to be able to rearrange stuff in the system tray by dragging it, as you can drag tabs to rearrange them in SeaMonkey.

Many, many thanks, I'll try it out.

Tried to compile on lupu 5.25 retro. The configure part went ok, but the make... Hm...
> WARNING: `automake-1.11' is missing on your system.
Never got this message before. Any ideas? Where do I get this package? Is there a Puppy-specific one?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I've seen messages like that when a package needs an automake newer than the one I have. Did you try the automake package you asked about in another thread?

Ah - I found another cool panel with this feature. Unfortunately it seems to be abandoned:
