Keep Barry around campaign

#1 Post by RockstarPup »

Hi I know Im new but I read some of these critical posts about Barry and I think it's time to start a counter campaign to these irc trolls. Barry stay on the project please , the distro is only getting better and get some paypal donate buttons so we can give Barry money for servers etc.

Who else wants Barry to stay?

Open source software is nothing without a benevolent dictator, I too wish for Barry to stay.

Barry is appreciated!

please do make it easier though. I am trying to donate but every time I get to paypal and login Barry;s info is gone. I need a button or an email to send it to.

If everyone contributed something the man would be be able to keep writing this amazing software, no one can work for free forever except Bill and he is unlikely to start.

Best way to keep him around, I would think, would be to organise a "money bomb." What better way to say thank you than the old fashioned way? What do you say someone start a collection drive, and folks who really appreciate Puppy in their lives each contribute a $100usd? It'd be nice to make a formal effort, rather than to just trust that people will wander over to Barry's site on their own and plunk down a few nickles and dimes.

Who else wants Barry to stay?
Me (and my alter 'Sith' ego Princess Darth Lobster)

Some kind souls are very sensitive.
They hear criticism louder than praise.

Being kind, being civil is not in some peoples repertoire.
People are different.

Sending money to Barry is a good idea.
Is he motivated by money?
I don't think so.
Is he motivated by the many lives that have been improved
by a computer dominated world?
I believe so.. other motives? Of course
- so many . . .

Woof is becoming interesting. Quirky
should be fun.
Barry continues to be involved.
everyone benefits.

Guys,
I appreciate the sentiment, but there's no need for a "keep me around" campaign. I am still around. Not releasing official puppies anymore, but working on Woof.

Woof is the thing that builds puppies! Or any other Puppy-like distro, such as my Quirky plaything.

As you can see on my blog, I'm still going full-steam ahead. Even looking at getting Woof onto a version control system -- and if I settle on Fossil then it will even have bug reporting.

...now, those who know me will know how anti-formal-project-management I am. So, it will be quite a change if I do end up putting Woof into a version control system. Ditto for bug reporting.

So, there's no need for a campaign to donate money. Donations are good of course, as then I don't have to look elsewhere for income and can just focus on Puppy-related development. I had the experience recently when I worked full-time at the Royal Show -- I was mostly too tired in the evenings to work on Puppy stuff.
Next year I'll have my pension, so income will be less of an issue.

The main reasons I don't want any campaign as-such to give donations to me, is:

1. The amount of donations that come in anyway is ok.
2. There are so many other guys contributing to Puppy, some of them low-income.

So if you receive an abundant amount, send them some of
your largesse if they are struggling.

Humility is your strong point.
Very Aussie.

Let people show gratitude though if they wish.
And therefore spread the love for Puppy to others.

Appreciation as always for your talent......

Chris.

Donation of $19.99

I just donated $19.99 to Barry. My donation is less that the recommend amount of $100 because I have essentially no income whatsoever. I will do more later, if possible.
