Click the Pet Install icon on desktop

icewm-1.3.2 is under "Puppy 4" and "Desktop"

In the words of Ricky of Trailer Park Boys fame, "It's not rocket appliances" for goodness sake.

AFAIK, no icon is supposed to appear on the desktop.

You'll need to click the "console" desktop icon and type: fixmenus

To test your icewm installation:

click menu > shutdown > exit to prompt

at prompt, type: xwin icewm

You should then get the icewm desktop.

click menu > logout > confirm logout "ok"

at prompt, type: reboot

computer should reboot with icewm

ODDITY: computer doesn't shutdown as in JWM. Must manually type "poweroff" @ command prompt after logout of icewm

I've found the installation of icewm far from seamless in Puppy v4.3.1. I'm writing something up on this. The wiki doesn't seem to have anything on this, so I might start a page for it.

In the meantime, do any users, preferrable icewm-heads, have any forum links on this?

Use the forum search feature for "icewm themes"

Search Google for "puppy icewm themes"

Try "xwin jwm" or "xwin icewm" (without the quotes, of course). See if either of those work.

If not, try "xorgwizard" and reconfigure.

Reboot after xwin jwm: missing desktop, missing icons.

Image

Unable to run xwin icewm, return to prompt w/o open desktop.
Xorgwizard done as before but w/o retults.

What's wrong?

01micko posted an updated icewm pet over in the dpup-482beta testing thread, see
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 780#365164
I'm using 01micko's icewm in Karmic Woof upup-450, with my rt-smp kernel. This Icewm is very stable, I like it a lot.

For anyone still struggling with Icewm in 4.3, Jemimah's made an icewm pet that fixes the menu icons issue as well as adding a shutdown option in the menu.

Right this way: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 225#410225
