Re: Install on HD |
|
We are trying to install Puppy 1.0.2 to the hard drive of our state-of-the-art MSI KT4AV MB computer. When we get to the point where it says Press ENTER key after you have inserted the CDROM:
We get
Mounting /dev/cdrom on /mnt/cdrom...
mount: Mounting /dev/cdrom on /mnt/cdrom failed: No such device or address
Something is wrong, it isn't mounted, Try again...
Actually the CD was mounted because we just started the live Puppy 1.0.2 CD with it. We have tried everything we can think of to get around this.
What is the solution?

Fox, you may have to go to an earlier version of Puppy, like 1.0.1.

Re: Install on HD (solved) |

We tried installing Puppy 1.0.1 on the same computer and got the same result- /mnt/cdrom failed
Update: This doesn't seem to be a problem on later Puppy distributions. Problem solved.

make sure it is mounted |

are you sure the cd is mounted.
I'd do a check using the mount tool.?...this will list all devices and show which are mounted.
(I had a similar error message but that was due to a faulty rd-rom not puppy.)

Did you run the CD/DVD Wizard to make sure that /dev/cdrom is pointing to the right place?
Start -> Setup -> CD/DVD drive Wizard

CD won't mount |
|
I had the same problem, but I have 2 CD drives in my machine.
I switched to the other drive, and presto it would mount the cd.
I hope this helps

Re: CD won't mount |

I have a CD burner a DVD. Depending on what and how they are being used, sometimes they are reported as being mountable the other way around. So mounting CD1 actually is mounting the second unit which is being used as a CD player.
Is this a specific bug which we can hunt down and eliminate?

re-CD won't mount |

This could be a bug, need to do some research.
I thought it might be the way puppy boots.
The drive might not be completly released.
I hadn't thought about it much until now.
