Foxit reader crashing.

#1 Post by 8-bit »

Foxitreader crashes upon trying to open any pdf file with this report when I run it from terminal in Puppy 431.
Any thoughts on how to correct this?
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Foxreader as well as trying various color depths with Nvidia-settings.

# foxitreader

( 6treader:32435): Gdk-WARNING **: gdkpixbuf-drawable.c:1247: Source drawable has no colormap; either pass in a colormap, or set the colormap on the drawable with gdk_drawable_set_colormap()

( 6treader:32435): Gdk-WARNING **: The gdk_draw_*_image require the drawable argument to
have a specified colormap. All windows have a colormap,
however, pixmaps only have colormap by default if they
were created with a non-NULL window argument. Otherwise
a colormap must be set on them with gdk_drawable_set_colormap

( 6treader:32435): Gdk-WARNING **: Attempt to draw a drawable with depth 24 to a drawable with depth 15
The program ' 6treader' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 7313 error_code 8 request_code 70 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I think Foxit doesn't like 16 bit color. Have you tried 24 bit color?

Yes, that is the well-known problem as pointed out in Foxit-related threads elsewhere on the forum.

I get around it by running the windows version over wine (since I am using wine for other things anyway); that works at 16 bit colour. Using wine, you could also use a more powerful alternative pdf reader instead:

PDF Xchange viewer: http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_use ... dfx_viewer

I prefer Foxit for simple reading, but Xchange viewer for annotations.

So as not to have to fight it, I installed Adobe Acroread and then right-clicked on a pdf file, selected Set run action, and changed it to acroread.
