All the pictures i used in that message were taken from various sites.
and I gathered them all in 1 picture or more and do some little editing. only the glass effect that i've made it myself. :D
There is this link: HOWTO add splash image to grub

Personally i think in comparison to gfxmenu, splashimages are rather lame. (but i would, wouldn't i)
i'm afraid it isn't what i meant. as you said, it was the comparison of gfxmenu.
If you are referring to GRUB splahimages,
unfortunately neither of my packages offer splashimage support.
i do this with my menu.lst

# Linux bootable partition config begins
title NOP 431
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
kernel /puppy431/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=puppy431 acpi=force
initrd /puppy431/initrd.gz quiet (splashimages)
# Linux bootable partition config ends

where the splashimages is the message file of the gfxmenu message and i did try other possibility (it was my dumb experiment) but still nothing is happen.

Is that what you mean by "neither of my packages offer splashimage support"?

Not exactly, i have never seen that way of doing things before
what i thought you intended to do was point to a splashimage insted of a message file in your menu.lst
but as i said, my packages do not support splashimages, ONLY gfxmenu message files.

I saw that method in jaunty.
But, :D never mind, because the time required to load module in puppy isn't that long.
So, I can left this thing behind and maybe work with other gfxmenu message.

thanks for all your support

OK...I just could not leave it... it's because my curiosity about splash image during boot in puppy.
After a lot of read, there are several ways to do it. I only try bootsplash and splashy.

On bootsplash, it should need to recompile the kernel, since i messed up with .config, after several times trying to figure it out. I gave up.

But there's a simple way to have bootsplash in your box , and i almost there to play with it. With splashy, there's no need to recompile the kernel. Now, i don't have a text running during booting, but neither the splash image too, i think it's because the themes for bootscreen or the lib for jpeg and/or png. I wish i have a lot of time to fix this.

Hi

Thought it was about time that i posted a new message file, so here it is.

Basically i took the default wallpapers from Puppy versions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 4.31 (left to right)
put them into the GIMP, gave it a good shake and ended up with this.

Failed. :D

Hi CatDude & All, :)

Okie-dokie now... I must assuredly be missing something here I'm almost sure of it, or there's something this one failing grey cell of mine I call a "brain" can't seem to understand somewhere - so perhaps CatDude et al might help me out?

How do I go about opening up these .gz files so as to get the images out like Trap did that I, too, can use them as wallpapers? Both the "Metal-Nipper" and "Pup-pup" would look awesome on some of my frugally-installed Puppy desktops here - and that "Forest Road" would just plain look fantastic in any distro for a wallpaper! Truly a breath-taking photo vellowax... reminds me of lazy summer afternoons walking in the deep Maine forests with my Grandfather - the most special person in my life. :)

Thanks for any pointers in opening these .gz files guys.

( Sidenote: BTW, I tried using the "cpio -iv <" command in CLI since ROX told me they were cpio files once the .gz was removed but nothing worked. sorry! )

That should work, it does for me
for example:

Code: Select all

cpio -iv < forestroad
or

Code: Select all

cpio -iv < metal-nipper_1024x768
I usually put the file in a temporary directory to open it up, as it consists of eight files.

I have attached both the images you are interested in below, to save you the trouble of opening the files up.
( save that grey cell mate  )

.

EDIT:

Added pup-pup.jpg, as at first i did not see that you mentioned it.

P.S
Would you like to swap a couple of grey cells for a pair of spectacles

OH!! Thank you so very much CatDude!! You've really made my day mate! -dancing!- :D

I've taken "Pup-Pup" and used that on my default Puppy ( HDD install 4.2.1 ) and with the "Azenis-Red" theme all the way around it looks nothing short of spectacular! In fact, when my nurse was here today she couldn't take her eyes off the computer's desktop, nor could she stop commenting upon how truly fantastic it looked! And my "Best Buddy" ( grandson ) is just wild over it of course! :D

...But wait until he sees "Nipper" on yet another Puppy desktop later on this evening!

Now as for the "glasses/specs": I've got seven or eight pairs kicking around here in the desk drawer. May as well send two or three your way as none of them work for me mate! - not even the pair sitting on my nose now! LOL!

Thank you so much once again my friend! May Blessings rain upon you and never cease!

Amicalement/Cheers!

Any chance that "wesuckmore" could be posted as a Wall Paper file in its normal size of 1024 by768. It would be great for my computer at work. It would help the management to understand the issue.

I read CatDude post on using cpio. It did worked. Thanks for the great pictures. Now, to hear that some one wants to talk to me.

Hi

I have finally figured out how to change the colour of the Help text (next to the F1)
it appears that there is a typing error in one of the files in the SUSE source code.

So, if you would like to change the colour of said text
this is what you need to do:

After unpacking your message file, open gfxboot.cfg in your text editor
and find the line that looks like this:

Code: Select all

panel.fg=0xffffff
and change it to this:

Code: Select all

panel.normal.fg=0xffffff
That's it, obviously you can change the colour from white to whatever you like,
then re-pack the message file as explained in Step 2. of this post.

I also re-compiled using the latest SUSE sources gfxboot-4.3.8-2.2.src.rpm
and hacked the code so the F1 Help is now located in the upper lefthand corner.

Below are some message files using this new layout,
there are two of each size, one with and one without the animated penguins theme.

Those with the penguins have been set to a 50% chance of them showing.

Hello.

I have a problem to create a boot image (back.jpg) 800x600 for file pupsta1.
I work with Precise Puppy 5.7 and Gimp 2.8.1.
I tried different resolutions, sizes and settings for color, but I do not understand, it does not work.

mikeb has already succeeded in transforming me a picture. But I can not do it.

For better understanding, I provide you an example.
The two files below seem to have the same characteristics.
However, if the file of mike works (back-mike-ok.jpg), mine (back_new.jpg) shows me a black background.
If anyone can help me understand what's wrong.

Link for back-mike-ok.jpg
Link for back_new.jpg
Link for black background

Cordialement
