streamtuner --shoutcast

#1 Post by hexdef101 »

Streamtuner shoutcast seems to be down "again". Don't know if anyone is aware of this yet.

Hi hexdef101,

Yes, my StreamTuner is also unable to browse Shoutcast. I recently posted this on the Lighthouse thread but it may be of interest here.
TazOC wrote:... The Shoutcast browser script in Amarok was broken by recent changes in the Shoutcast website and platform. StreamTuner's Shoutcast browser is broken for the same reason. Both Amarok and VLC have been forced to remove their Shoutcast plugins by contractual/closed source license conflicts and adware demands by AOL's Shoutcast management.

I noticed Streamtuner/Shoutcast not working approx three weeks ago. And this is after CatDude had fixed it a month ago. I cannot tune into any station under the Soutcast tab without getting a " unable to connect to host". However, all of my bookmarked stations are usable. But this severely limits the use of streamtuner as a handy station finder/player. I used it alot and unless there is a workaround I will have to build my favorites the hard way.

I have noticed the same problem.

I no longer use streamtuner but I use streamripper with Seamonkey + flashget. I have it configured so I can download and save if I want.

VLC does find the stations but I don't like the default save function as it's all to one file. Streamripper saves the songs as individual files instead of one large file. Ripped songs are easy to edit with mhwaveedit.

That's good to know! Maybe your plug-in ver. is <1.1.0?
http://www.videolan.org/press/2010-1.html
Starting from VLC 1.1.0, the SHOUTcast module is not available on the distributed VLC any longer, because AOL Corporation is hindering Open Source Software.
We want to emphasise the fact that features like SHOUTcast or icecast browsing are now doable using our new extension framework and you will find user-contributed extensions on http://addons.videolan.org/
(As of now http://addons.videolan.org re-directs to videolan.org)

Thanks Yogi, that link was helpful and I built a Streamtuner2 SFS.

Forum link: Streamtuner2 for Lucid Puppy, Slackpup or Lighthouse Pup
