Thanks for this. I've been looking for something better than Abiword yet not as huge as Open Office.

Looks good

but I'm having trouble validating. I used the validation details emailed to me when I downloaded the full package at their website but they dont seem to work on the puppy version.

*******
Cancel that - - I'm being stupid - the first number I got was for windows version - went back and got linux one and all fine!
********
I'm glad about this. Abiword cant cope with long documents of 60 or more pages on my eee - I sometimes need to look over these for work OO is fine I hope this does the job.

I used this a bit more today and found out it can't handle stuff saved in abiword's native format. I don't know if that matters to anyone, but I thought I would mention it.

and if that happens just open it in abiword then save it as rtf or doc and then open it in SO 2008.

Good - Textmaker is able to handle a large 0.5mb doc file very well some of the tables have an unwanted black line going down them but other than that the document loads quickly and looks fine.

Abiword - just dies - it does a very poor job of bringing up the first page but with text boxes in the wrong places - after that nothing.

So if you need to access larger more complex files this looks really good. a very interesting alternative to open office - lets see what the company thinks about this but it must be good for them - I'd never heard of them before.

I get an error when I try to install. I'm running MacPup (based on 4.3.1) and I get a .pet file of just under 4mb when I download from tuuxx - is this correct? When I click on it the Pkg Mgr launches and asks if I want to install - I click Yes and then I get an error. No real details in the msg - just 'Error - cannot install'.

Any ideas what's going on? I'd love to use Softmaker Office on Puppy.

Eric,

I think that until Softmaker get back to us, you have no choice but to block the link...I don't think we will hear from them till after New Year.

Hi eric, I didn't provide a key with it, so mirroring should be ok, if people don't have a key then they can't use it, or is mirroring against the rules also? I'm not sure, really it should be gpl.

Jeff,

Try for a license..then get the. docx as in the new release.

I need to shut this off...there are many more files that are on puppylinux.ca and I need to protect them...you understand.

Hi,
DaveS wrote:Is a database app included?
have quickly tested Softmaker-french:
(thanks esmourguit for the french 25MB pet ! given on the french Puppy=Toutou's forum )
textmaker includes a database (click on "complement" in the menubar): it can create, modify or associate an existing database. It can read .dbf files
(I could import a database exported from MS Works in .dbf format (except that accentuated characters are not recognized...): very usefull and fast to perform mail merging.

Cheers

Not difficult at all. I used dir2sfs to make it sfs. It works ok. It is even on my menu under jwm. Dir2pet should make pet as easily. Not used it myself because I try make apps easily installable and uninstallable sfs. But process should be as easy.

I am sure someone can give you more info howto use dir2pet. Or use search dir2pet.

Trouble with Softmaker

#34 Post by davec51 »

I like Textmaker, too, but when I try to format and use its envelope facility, the font comes out at 24-point or larger no matter what I do. Most of the text is off the envelope. I asked for help on their forum, but I have not had a reply for five days.
Does anyone here have a solution?

Hi

I don't have a printer compatible with Linux yet to test it tonight but there is an A above that sender and recipient fields that is suppose to let you change the fonts. It does not seem to though. As soon as you unclick the window it says 10p..
