Greetings from a New Pupster Subject description: What a Great Distro!!! |
|
Greetings
I am a new Puppy convert and I wanted to say how happy I am to have discovered it. I have already downloaded a few Puplets and they are lots of fun.
I'll be spending my free time here in the forums. It seems like a great community.

Hi there Kirby,
I also am new to this distribution, and I'm finding it one of the best I've used as well (with a few minor problems here and there but I've had them in all of the distro's I've used, so nothing new thankfully!)
Good to hear you're having fun with it,
Fatninja

Greetings Mates
Just wanted to update and say I have been using Puppy for a month now as my Main OS and Could not be happier. I have learned a lot from the forums and all the kind folks here and I really Appreciate it!
I have had a few issues, and with some time and research on my own here have found the solutions. Other times I have asked a question and gotten much needed help. I am trying not to ask now until I feel I have exhausted the search tools. There is so much information here and even if I don't find out right away what I am looking for, I end up learning 5 new tricks along the way
Puppy Rocks my World! It's a learning experience, but a Fun and Very Pleasant one! Thanks again for all things Puppy

Hiyas Mates
It's been a few months now with Puppy as my Main OS. Puppy I fear has ruined me forever. After using it as my "Daily Driver" the past few months, I am so spoiled with the great features and ease of use that using anything else is really frustrating for me. It's so intuitive and pleasant to use it makes me wonder how I have gotten by all this time without it?
I am using this thread as my occasional "Woof Woof of the Wild" Call! I hope it doesn't bother anyone. I just have the urge now and again to say how much I love Puppy and it's community!
Thank You Barry and Everyone Else, who has given us this Wonderful Operating System!

Actually I believe that the developers of Puppy... Barry In Particular, may not get thanked enough... Let me take this opportunity to do the same

Agreed.
The transition from Noob to Puppy (Puppy user)
and Penguin (Linux User) is both fun, interactive
and empowering.
We are still a developer led distro
totally dependent on our new kennel members
for feedback, new projects and all the myriad ways
they find to help out
Thanks guys

Hiyas Mates
Thanks for moving this thread to Puppy Power! I feel better about rejoicing about Puppy here.
I spent the day browsing Distro Watch looking for other small Linux's out of curiosity and it just reaffirmed all my feelings about Puppy. I tried out Mint Linux and was quite impressed using the live disc, but when I tried to install it, it broke as usual. It's Ubuntu based and so it hates me LOL. I have had to use Opensuse for a few days because I don't know how to use the Torrent app that comes with Stardust and was in misery the whole time because I was without my best friend.
In a Perfect world I would wish for the Huge software repositories that come with Ubuntu for Puppy. I am patient though. I would rather wait 5 years than go another 5 days without my Puppy Linux! This Distro for some odd reason brings me so much Joy and Happiness. It's very strange to me that an Operating System could have that effect on someone. Perhaps it's all the kindness and care that is put into it some how comes back out? I just don't know.
When ever I have an issue with Puppy, I know from experience that it's not the OS but my lack of understanding thats the issue. I have such faith and trust in Puppy now that I can go about my business and enjoy using my computer without ever having to worry about viruses or malware anymore.
I could just blather on, but for now I'll try to retain some dignity.
I will just say again how Very Thankful I am to have Puppy Linux!
Thank You Barry K!
Thank You murga-linux.com!
And Thank You All you Wonderful Pupsters that help each other!

Kirby,
You can use the huge repositories of other distros.
You can build your own version of Puppy using woof.
Debian, slackware, Ubuntu etc.
Read more about it at:

if your using Stardust, Transmission is the best lightweight torrent downloader

I'm not sure if Michalis has the mimes set or not, 2.14X has it set so when you click a torrent it automatically loads.

1 Year Update! |
|
Ahoy Mates
It's been a year now using Puppy! I haven't posted in a long time because Puppy has made me Lazy!
I have been using Puppy Everyday, at home and also away on my IBM Thinkpad. I am at the point now where I would not even consider another Operating System for daily use.
A friend is trying to get me to get Windows 7 and even though it seems like their best OS yet, I don't want to worry about all the trouble that MS has with security. Besides it's no Puppy!
Puppy has been Rock Solid for me the past year and is a Joy to use. I can take it with me on a CD and it has come to the rescue Many Times! It's so small that I have upgraded my old computers with it and save a lot of space on those old small HD's.
I am currently using Lucid 5.1 and have had no issues with it. I often take it for granted that it just works and forget that this is not always the case with other OS's I have tried or used in the past.
If I do have trouble I don't sweat it because, once again I take it for granted that I have this Forum. This Community is an Amazing group and I only wish the rest of the world was as Good! The qualities here are truly some of the best mankind has to offer. Perhaps that's why Puppy is such a Joy to use? It has all the Love, Kindness, Ingenuity, and Creativity from it's members instilled in it.
I just wanted to Thank Barry and all the Amazing Members of the Community for sharing this with me!

Kirby, antiX Linux and Swift Linux are both lightweight and fully compatible with the Debian repository. I recently started Swift Linux, which is based on antiX Linux but more user-friendly. What makes Swift Linux unique isn't any one thing but the COMBINATION of lightweight operation, a superior repository, AND user-friendliness. Like Puppy Linux and unlike antiX Linux, Swift Linux has the ROX Pinboard desktop activated BY DEFAULT.
The Swift Linux web site is http://www.swiftlinux.org .
