"Antiquity" icon theme (my first icon theme...be gentle :) )

#1 Post by ARu »

Hello Puppy community! I'm somewhat new to this OS but I absolutely love it!

Here is me trying to get creative... I'm in Nottingham UK for a year in school and I thought this would be a nice homage to the all the history there is here in Europe. I even gave my Gimp icon a Robin Hood hat just for fun lol ;-) hope you enjoy it as much as i've had fun making it!!

***ARu

PS:I tried to make a pet of this first, but my University's network was blocking the upload of a .pet they thought it was spyware. LOL

Excellent effort, ARu! The scanner and shutdown icons tend to "jar" a little, but over all the set has a very consistent look and feel. Well done! 8)

thanks guys! after i compiled the package i realized too late that i didn't even make an icon for the scanner, i'll create one later and post it for people to add onto, and maybe i'll try and think up a better shutdown button...but thanks much for the constructive comments!!

Looks good to me too. The only thing stopping me using them is the lack of an appropriate background to do them justice. That said, with the predominant Medieval theme I was wondering why you used the Colosseum instead of a Castle or similar for the "home" icon. Not a criticism just curiosity :D

A couple of suggestions you can ignore or use as you like:
1/ An Executioner for the 'shutdown' or 'kill' icons.
2/ The magnifying glass over a sheet of parchment for the 'scanner' icon.
Linux = Learning through doing  :? :D
The learning curve may be steep but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You just have to pass the occasional oncoming train to get there.

thanks Billwho:

I originally wanted the theme to be all medieval, but to be honest i couldnt think of good icons for some of them and I decided maybe antiquities would be a better fit becasue i could take from other cultures. If i put more thought into it I could probably re-do it all in a medieval package, but that will have to wait until after term papers are done lol ....you had some good suggestions though (ie the scanner icon) i'll probably play those ideas once i have some time to work some more on it

I chose the colosseum because I had a couple of other elements that were not medieval like the chinese counter for the calculator and the pirateship steering wheel for Utilities and the Chinese goodluck coin for Optical. I actually did have a castle icon at first for home, but it didnt look like a castle anymore once i shrunk it to 48 and 24 px, again i could have figured something out but laziness and school work prevailed haha.

thanks for the feedback!

PS: I have some backgrounds that u can try out that will work well with the theme.

Hi ARu!

Just wanted to thank you for your brilliant icon theme which you've made here! Are you sure you're a "beginning themer"? ;) Seriously - that's what a fab job you've done with this set. I sure hope to see more works in the future from you? ( As long as they don't interfer with any studies or whatnot, alright? That's obviously far more important. ;) )

I also would like to thank you for all of these great wallpapers you've added above. Totally awesome!

Thumbs up all the way around ARu! Keep up the fabulous work and looking forward to seeing more. I hope that you continue enjoying Puppy as much as we do! :)

Amicalement!/Cheers!

ARu,

Thank you for the icon theme. I thought I'd upload a screen-shot of what I did with it. I've been personalizing my Puppy... Hope you approve.

Thanks again,

Eathray

Hi.

I have download the package and found 4 icons do have a wrong ownership.

Instead of root, root it is set to ftp, user, ftp,ftp and similar.

Uploading a new package failed because of 256KB limit for new files to upload.

@RSH -- upload here -- http://www.datafilehost.com/ -- but warn folks, there's a bright green "DOWNLOAD NOW" button and a less obvious grey "DOWNLOAD" button -- you want the second, less obvious grey button or you'll get Nasty Windows Stuff instead (a download manager that doesn't work but is terrifically annoying and hard to get rid of).

Ok, done.

Ha, that's funny. I had lately uploaded files to datafilehost.com, but it didn't come in mind, when trying to upload the fixed Antiquity package to the forum.

However, the small, gray button is the download button you want to use!

Antiquity for Senators

My Puppy for Pupils (ASRI Education). It's inspiered by the Justin Bieber Puppy Linux 5.2.5, the difference being the consumers panel, not teenagers, but seniors (or senators, as you like).
As we are not on Facebook i really imagine ASRI Edu as Leonardo Da Vinci.
I can provide you the background if needed. Horses and Clock don't fit my 1600x900 screen.
