I think at current state, it is already a benefit, if first manufacturers start bundling their products with Puppy.
This will tell other manufacturers, Puppy is "ready" for commercial usage.

I still dream of the day, when a manufacturer says: "well, we need this addon and that, and... xxx ,so why shouldn't we employ one of those Puppy-geeks?".

This way ximians developers got their job at Novell.

Meanwhile it would be great, if companies earning money with Puppy would donate to Barry.

Showing the Way

#4 Post by raffy »

I guess simpleict.com has shown the way of how a service entity can provide much-needed service for the community and earn, too.

It is just sad that they never mention Puppy while showing screenshots of Puppy itself.

Months ago, I was viewing a simpleict press release like that and was guessing that it was Slax. With the screenshots this time, I confirmed it was Puppy. Thanks, Guest, for posting the links.

www.simpleict.com/SIPROdemo.iso

Please call if you experience any problems. both demo's are 800x600 with ps2

A better question is: Did puppy creator created it to benefit from it?

I'm sure the answer is Yes, although only Barry knows what kind of benefit he expected.

I'm sure he's learned a lot. That's a benefit.
I'm sure that he's happy that other people find it usefull. That's a benefit
I'm sure that he benefits from countless people, many anonymous.

It's odd how people think that they understand open source but they really don't.

The strange thing about open source is that you always benefit more personally than what you can ever contribute back. So it's always a win. You only contribute as one person. but use the contributions of 1000's

If that company is benefiting economically from distributing a puppy derivative that's their right. I'm sure that they've put effort in comercializing it and addapting it (as pointed by MU).

Hi Guys

This is Paul from SimpleICT, thanks for some of the nice words said in this post but SimpleICT is no more. We spent a great deal of money promoting and advertising our services throughout the UK but it just didn't take off. We applied for the governments small firm loan scheme but of course we didn't get it, even though ours was an ethical project by re-using old PCs. (shame we didn't want to start a corner off license come mini mart because we would have been fine and dandy)

As in previous posts This tiny company just wanted to earn a living by providing bespoke services for schools. We have always appreciated and loved the Puppy OS and OK perhaps we was a bit naive in our approach, but we ment well and both Rob and I have the outstanding debts to prove it!

Thanks for your support

Hi Paul,
bad news, I hope you have got a good alternative to earn your money with.
it is good to know, that Puppy can be used for Business-projects, however any business has it's risk, and fighting against exististing quasi-standards (Microsoft) is very difficult.

Wish you good luck for your next projects :)

A software-only approach is really difficult. Adding hardware to it may be better, especially in multisession DVD configuration.

You may still make use of your experience and build pages at http://puppylinux.biz - just register and the admin will upgrade you to author.

A failure means you are nearing success. :)
