I've just convinced a friend of mine that he might use back an old HP Omnibook 6000 if he quit using windows 2000 (sooo slow) and started to use puppy. I've shown it and of course he loved it!
Now with the live distro it works fine and proves the point: lightning fast! But, and there is a big but, It only works in vesa and 640x480 resolution.
I've seen on the net some people talking about some sort of a bios update. I've got from HPs website some files to flash the bios but it requires some disketes and I don't have a drive. Then tried to create a CD with the files in it but it doens't work. Doodles something in the screen and stops in the prompt. I've been poking around but with no success. Can anyone give some other clues to solve this and clear my name with my friend?
Video with only 640x480
The only resolution available is 640x480! In the boot when we can choose screen sizes I've tried everything.rjbrewer wrote:You can try menu>setup>xvesa video wizard, and try changing
resolution.
I just installed puppy-3.01retro-k2.6.18.1-seamonkey for the sake of th experience and it works, but the new 4.3.1 interface is a lot better, so I'm still trying to figure this out.

Ok try 2.14x it has a newer backend than 4.31, newer rox, better graphics, built of older hardware and newer. It 3.0.1 would load then 2.14X should, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=42553isidro wrote:The only resolution available is 640x480! maybe let him try it, if he likes it the next release in a day or 2 will have a lot of updates, and I'm also tossing in thunar so you can pick rox or thunar as the file manager. right now it has Firefox 3.5 and flash 10. tell us how it went if you tried it
