The article doesn't say if the German government recommended a browser to use instead.

The French have followed . . .
About time the whole of Europe realised
that if a browser is targeting Google (or Opera as in the past)
the criminals may be the Ballmer Boys
The British have a deal with MS (Billus Gatus - the well known virus, met Tiny Blare - the well known war monger) so might take them a while to
realize they should not believe the men in banker suits
I am pleased to say my family are at least using Firefox (if not Puppy)

no, they only recommend the usage of an recent alternative browser...

Description
In Internet Explorer, there is a critical yet unknown vulnerability. The vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious code via a specially crafted Web page into a Windows computer to infiltrate and set up. The last week became known hacker attack on Google and other U.S. companies have exploited this vulnerability likely.
Affected are the versions 6, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Internet Explorer on Windows systems XP, Vista and 7 Microsoft has released a security advisory [edited 1], in which it describes possible ways of minimizing risk. Microsoft is already working on a patch to close the security gap. The BSI expects that this vulnerability will be used in a short time for attacks on the Internet.
