Subject description: I want to know how to keep programs on a separate USB Flash D and launch from there.

Hello,
I run Puppy 4.3.1 derivative, Puppeee from a USB Flash D on my netbook 1005HA.
I would like to know how I can keep some programs on a separate USB Flash D and then launch programs off of that drive.
Examples would be Wine, OpenOffice.org, and etc...
I do not want to use the on-board HDD for this.
Is this possible?

use jrb's sfs linker for the sfs of those programs
(by the way my wine pets are set up to use portableapps installed on the same usb drive using the default instal location... if you are using wine anyways you can keep them on the same drive and launch it from your tray)

Hello technosaurus,
I read through some of the links re: how to use choicepup412 and the discussions are beyond my understanding of how things work.

It is unclear to me if jrb's sfs linker will work with the Puppeee derivative.
The link jrb provides on how it works led to a thread that has a lot of discussion of some of the problems, but I am not sure where the current status as to the solutions is to be found.

It is clear that the project is aimed at what I asked for. I just wish I could understand how to use it.
Thanks.

have an opera that does this, i would like a portable gimp as well as openoffice but dont really use openoffice related stuff that much. puppy has replacements for most of the things in openoffice.

Mitchellray,
See SFS-TCZ_Linker-431bk-1.2.pet and no-def version
Quote:
How does it work?
Really quite simple. Right click on an SFS or TCZ and choose "install_with_sfs_linker. Right click on the same SFS or TCZ and choose "uninstall_with_sfs_unlinker.

Get your SFS from here ChoicePup431 - a gnu way

Install the SFS-TCZ_Linker-431bk-1.2.pet
Reboot
Download the SFS you wish to use.
Find the SFS you wish to use in ROX file manager and right click on it. Choose "install_with_sfs_linker".

Will it work, yes Very Happy (99.9% certainty)

If you're worried about it backup your pupsave file first.
