Remasterpup2 update

NOTE: Recent woof 13Sep2010 and later has a problem with 'reuse' existing files instead of rebuild the main sfs. You need to upgrade to the remasterpup2-20120721.pet if you use it for 'reuse' function on Wary-500, Lupu-520, Quirty-120 and later.
For other Puppies, use remasterpup2-100120.pet
Download from http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/.

NOTE2:To see Grub4Dos support, check the comment in /usr/sbin/remasterpup2.

Code: Select all

# 7aug09 grub4dos support
NOTE3: pa_mcclamrock works remasterpup3 with improved GUI.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=55381

Remasterpup2 in Puppy Linux 4.3.1 Japanese edition is improved from the original. it is now in recent woof, but here is the latest version.
  1. choice cd or iso file. means be able to remaster on pc's without cd drive.
  2. remaster with or without zp-xxx.sfs.
  3. Grub4Dos support (both grub4dos or isolinux)
  4. i18n
  5. can be used with woof puppy(4.3x) and with non-woof puppy (4.0-4.2x) and their delivatives.
How to make Grub4Dos boot live CD?
you need grldr. splash.xpm and menu.lst for the live CD.
grldr is in grub4dos.

examples of splash.xpm and menu.lst are in
Puppy 4.3.1 Japanese edition or in firstsetup package.

Read the Quickset document for an example.

Great stuff......dougal's script also offered to only build the pup_xxx.sfs as well which is a handy feature for frugal users.

Mike

I got lots of abuse here for suggesting grub4dos a while ago....what is your secret?

I don't get this option on 4.2, but I do on LupQ.. Is that right?

Right. Most of Puppy-4.x do not have. The latest remasterpup2-100120, found in (maybe all) Puppy-5.x, has, with backward compatibility.

I actually meant that I had installed the latest remasterpup2-100120 in 4.2, but still did not get asked to make a separate zp-xxx.sfs...

But I think it's solved now... Just setup issues..

I tested on 4.2.1 installed remasterpup2-100120 and made the separate zp-xxx.sfs.

Recent woof 13Sep2010 and later has a problem with 'reuse' existing files instead of rebuild the main sfs. You need to upgrade to the remasterpup2-110101.pet if you use it for 'reuse' function. See the top post.

Code: Select all

#100913 simplified puppy filenames. see variables in /etc/DISTRO_SPECS.
#100916 no longer have DISTRO_DEVXSFS in /etc/DISTRO_SPECS.(it was only there briefly)
#101020 no longer have /etc/modprobe.conf.
#101107 bug fix from zygo.
# 1jan11 shinobar not append id-string for reuse
(The last line is the fix of the 'reuse'.)

Thanks, yordanj. I have updated the note at the top post:
The remasterpup2-110101.pet if you use it for 'reuse' function on Wary-500, Lupu-520, Quirty-120 and later.
For other Puppies, use remasterpup2-100120.pet
As for the LUPQ-511, you need not upgrade.

You need to copy the file /etc/windowmanager to /tmp/etc, the remasterpup2 created.

EDIT: remasterpup2-20120720 didn't work in some case:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=901

UPDATE: remasterpup2-20120721.pet
http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/
Sync with most recent woof + rerwin's fix + rodin's fix seen in slacko + shinobar's fix.

#110902 rodin.s bug fix.
#120323 replace 'xmessage' with 'pupmessage'.
#120329 Xdialog bug --yesno supposed to "yes" "No" buttons, but they are "OK" "Cancel".
#120512 01micko: support xz compression.
#120605 rerwin: omit /dev/snd content, /dev/.udev subdirectory and modem daemons from new master (because daemons reinstalled from firmware if needed).
#120606 rerwin: support users' replacement of stripped /root & /etc with complete directories (for "boot disk").
#120607 rerwin: Remove indicators/files for integrated user-installed packages.
#120628 shinobar: no change id-string for reuse
#120705 shinobar: dummy 'pupmessage'
#120721 avoid wildcards option introduded in 120605 (thanks to majorfoo ), remove /usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache
