Bye-bye (notebook) hard drive, hello flash
Bye-bye (notebook) hard drive, hello flash
Here's a ZDNet article about how flash memory might replace the hard drive in some notebook computers - in 5 or 6 years. The discussion following the article is good too.
They certainly got a lot of feedback to that article. Some how the Zindoz fanatics always get to crying, They say stupid stuff like "Make sure you have Z hard on board before you invest in this technoligy".
A thought acured to me if this concept really works and enough Hardware manufactures want to make it, wouldn't that give linux a great big open door.
The whole concept of readonly media for part of the OS and readwright for others such as Puppy has done is a great big jump in security. And that would prolong the live of these flash memory.
And another item some often forget is when we get more storage space available to us the consumer, the software manufactures think it's for them. They build bigger bloated programs. They seem to forget the whole idea of hardware manufactures made faster bigger PCs was for the consummers benifit, not thiers.
