Booting and running without the CD/DVD present

#1 Post by LeithR »

I'm running Slako 5.3.3 on a Presario 2100 full install and have partitioned my 20Gib drive with SDA1 - 17Gib and sda2 - 1Gib Swap partition - absolutely no Windoze in sight!.

I'm aware that you can remove the DC/DVD once booted up, but is it possible to run the laptop without having a CD/DVD present at all? I ask as my CD/DVD drive is beginning to act up.

Surely if it is installed as you say you don't need any form of cd/dvd reader!
Have you set up Grub or Grub4Dos corrrectly ?
(Sorry didn't mean to grrrowl at you!)

I agree. If you installed Slacko correctly then you shouldn't need the CD any more. Tell us more. Exactly what steps did you follow to install it? What have you tried since you installed it? If you tried to boot without the CD, exactly what happened?

This is just a quick question about our install to the hard drive.
Did you install grub or grub for dos?
I ask because linux needs a boot-loader and if you are having to use the CD/DVD to boot, then grub is not set up correctly.
