boot2pup problem . . . help!

#1 Post by New User »

I am up to:

"Step 3

Download this file: boot2pup.img.gz"

on [http://www.goosee.com/puppy/boot2pup.htm] (I have an older PC with no CD and will not boot from USB), but when I click the link there, rather than beginning a download, it takes me to this page: [http://www.goosee.com/puppy/download/boot2pup.img.gz] . . . which is just a bunch of gibberish.

What am I missing?

sounds like your browser is trying to open the file as a web page. try right clicking on the link, and then in the menu that pops up, choose "save as" or "save link target as", or something like that, depending on your web browser.

That was my first thought, too, but now "save as" option came up.

"no" save-as option is what I meant to say.

You probably have to right click on the link ...

What browser are you using ?

Firefox. I tried it with IE and was able to download it, but now I have a new problem. It doesn't show up as "unzipable" in windows (no option, on right-click, to expand), as did all the others I have downloaded to get to this point. Aarg.

Try http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar342.exe, WinRar is pretty good with most formats.

For actually writing the floppy try http://www.winimage.com/.

the server mime setting for gz files is text/html
(it shouldn't be)

i downloaded boot2pup.gz, checked the md5sum, zipped it, and uploaded it to the old forum, but it's no longer there

here is a zip version of boot2pup (uploaded June 4, 2005)
md5sum: 15f1daae6991886668e5385a97150954
