I have loaded a couple of Stardustversions, 009 and 011
and I am lost as to what version is what!
Where is the ref to these versions numbers located in the file system ?
Also I did a frugal install of 009 first and then tried to upgrade
with 011 on top. I have added some extra progs to v009.Why have they not mixed together to form the upgraded v011?
Also in the process a new puppysave was made jumped from xx.2sfs
to 1.2sfs whats' going on here?
thanks Tui

Hi Tui
welcome to the wonderful world of Puppy bedded in a chaotic universe.
I understand your confusion, but the regular Puppies have even stranger numbers. So don't even try to understand the system or to figure it out. There is no one person that would keep an eye on it and sort it all out. It is creative chaos in the making....
Having fondly said this, we can step right into the question of upgrades. My only advice there is: DON'T.
Don't ever try version upgrades. The cases where they work are few and far between. Most of the time they don't work.
My work around is this: Save all additions, pets, sfs, tarballs etc. in a separate directory on another partition. Keep text files with notes of your other modifications. Then, when a new Puppy comes along, make a clean frugal install, create a new pupsave file and install all your goodies again from that archive. It might take you a bit of time, but it is well invested time.
Enjoy Puppy, nevertheless. It is definitely worth all the little shortcomings.
