BE AWARE!!!!
If you have Puppy installed, you MUST run this with the prefix 'puppy pfix=ram'. Else, the Stardust desktop will not install.

Here is the good old Stardust icon-theme updated for Puppy Stardust (thanks to 01micko)

Comments version 010
tecnosaurus has made some nice improvements to the Stardust installer script. It is now much faster than previous versions. The startup of pcc has also got a speedup.

I have included some updates from the 'Puppy-4.3.1 bugfix thread'. - partview (ecube), xorgwizard (pizzasgood), pmount, drive_all (shinobar), pup_event_fronend_d (minhundhetteperro). Please give it a try..... A complete list of Puppy-4.3.1 bugfixes - See end of this thread.

Patriot has made a new app: lameNFSxplorer. If you find use of it, please test and give feedback.

The main Stardust news is in the themeing area. Ptheme has now got a gui and is now much more flexible. You can freely set up a global theme of your liking. Let's hope someone find interest in Stardust themes, and gives us some improved graphichs.

This Stardust iso is hosted on russoodles server. Without server space, a project like Stardust would never been possible. Thanks a lot!!!

____________________________________________________________________________

The following list shows many items that is taken out of the iso. But, it is not as critical as it seems. Most of these are tiny apps, and you have not been aware of many of them. Simply because other apps do the job.

Aqualung has left, and Pmusic is back. Pmusic has evolved in both features and speed, so It is more a matter of longterm strategy. I hope it will be possible to build more around ffmpeg in the future. We could hopefully get rid of lidsnd, libsamplerate and maybe libxine...

Gadmin-Rsync is out as well, since it crashed on first run. I don't think Pbackup fill the backup issue completely. It would be wonderful if there exists a tiny but complete backup suit.

If you see something that you would have changed, added or removed, I will be very glad if you mentioned it. Because of my limited time, it would be best if you deliver the patch.... My knowledge of network/internet tools is close to zero, so these are nearly untouched.

Possible improvements are easy to see
- Improve artwork.
- alternative multimedia tools using ffmpeg.
- hunt more files we don't need.
- upgrade gui in some of the scripts.
- extend the control center.
- replacement of Gparted (901kb)
- boot Puppy with pfix=fsck
- driver adds/updates
- ...

This is meant to be a full featured user-oriented Puppy....Though, I have to admit that the biggest modem drivers is removed.

So what's added
- Stardust desktop environment - including pcc (Puppy control center), desktop configuration tools and Pwidgets
- Pwireless2 (replaces Pwireless)
- ATI graphic drivers
- Broadcom wifi drivers
- splix - Samsung, Xerox, Dell printer drivers
- acpid
- Pmusic (replaces aqualung)
- woo-ff
- printoxx
- floppy-formater (replaces floppy-format.sh)
- gtkmoz (replaces PuppyBrowser)
- Pupradio (replaces pstreamvid)
- seahaven
- lameNFSxplorer
- lameSMBxplorer (replaces pnethood)
- pstartupsound
- startmount
- fileedit (set to defaulttextviewer)
- default-wizard
- RetroVol (replaces absvolume and zmixer)
- Galculator
- Pscreenshot
- xgamma

- icon_switcher
- JwmThemeMaker
- partview
- Pburn
- pmount
- pup_event_fronend_d

- xorgwizard

And what does the Stardust-generator change
- Install desktop at first startup rather than keep it in the iso to save space
- snap desktop icons - medium grid
- simple Pmount facelift
- Xlock is fixed
- start pCD instead of defaultmediaplayer when click on audio-CD icon
- seamonkey buttons
- defaultaudioplayer is changed from aqualung to pmusic
- defaultaudiomixer is changed from zmixer to retrovol
- Net-setup goes to Pwireless2 for wireless configuration

- gtklogfileviewer - Does any script use anymore ???
- gtksourceview
- libmad
- libsnd (mhwaveedit (not updated) and aqualung used libsnd)
- madplay

- picpuz

- pmwget (PMirrorget)
- pnetnood

- xAutoconnect - Pwireless2 should do the job
- xcalc

- Xconsole
- xfontsel

- zmixer

*** Trimming ***
- cdrkit - Pburn has very few dependencies

- xgamma was missing in xorgwizard (thanks to PANZERKOPF)
- More partitions than 1 row on desktop (thanks to minhundhetteperro)

Zigbert,

apparently, pwidgets are not yet set-up when the drive-icons are laid out on first boot, resulting in some drive-icons getting hidden behind the right-hand side widget column. Problem is solved, for me, by running the pinstall-script I supplied you with in the test-.pet.

You would know better than I how to solve this issue, knowing the stardust-generation order ... :? :) :)

Hi Sigmund

FYI, pupRadio is up to version 0.5.3 and it addressed default player issues in 0.5.2, guess I should have told you!

Also Starmount is up to version 0.3.0. An added feature of running a loop at startup to detect internet connection in case it is slow to start (Pwireless2 takes a few seconds to start  ), thus apps like browsers and ftp programs and other net dependent programs don't open up empty. It is turned off by default but is adjustable from the preferences menu.

Cheers

I usually post the delta as quick as I can. I imagine russoodle's server copped a whacking today so hopefully the delta can take some pressure off.

timremy

You may have copped a bad download, probably due to the traffic on the server. You could try the delta file, a small download, as long as you have Stardust 009. Instructions in how to use the delta file are here. It is quite simple.

Yep, never a prob with deltas (and only a few minutes as opposed to hours on my usual 'best' 4.9kb/s dialup dl speed) - even if you don't have drag'n'drop (or the colon truncated the filename - can happen on old win32 or ..), the cl is simple ie-this is how mine actually works, but others may need the full name of the dotdelta file..

Code: Select all

xdelta3 -d -s pup_stardust-009.iso pup_stardust-010.iso.delta pup_stardust-010.iso
and voila :)

thanks 2 all involved

Hello!

I am reporting that the pmount is not riding the drivers whose partition is FAT 32.
I managed to put a wallpaper in the background. OK!
I went to use the 009 version that is very good!
A big hug!

Thanks!

Hi guys :)

As 01micko says, the server did cop a whacking, quite an invasion in fact....there was a time-frame where it seemed everyone and his (puppy)dog was diving in at once and the server had a bit of a howl about it...and there's still the odd one having a spot of bother, but for the most part it seems to have settled down.

If you miss out on the first try, just give it a little while and try again, all should be good then.

Rock on, ziggy stardust :D

4 different ways to the wallpaper setter.
1. mouse-mid-click on desktop and choose wallpaper from the menu
2. Main menu --> programs --> desktop --> wallpaper
3. Puppy control center --> desktop --> wallpaper
4. execute 'wallpaper' in the terminal

hmmm, when I select the blue theme, the three icons on the right of the top utility bar display so close in colour to the background as to be practically invisible. Maybe my system or settings as this was not the case with 009

Edit: looks like some mix-ups with the icon set?

Can you explain this more in detail? I can (un)mount my fat32 partition with Pmount in Stardust 010. Does it work in 009?
