PCMCIA network card not recognized problem

#1 Post by 8-bit »

I see a few posts of a PCMCIA network card not recognized and thought I would pass along my experience.
I have two old Compaq laptops that I inserted a card into and then tried to set up networking.
In both cases, the card was not recognized.
I investigated and found that the slot was not allowing the card to plug fully into it.
I worked with the card and found that it was not going in far enough to make contact.
The slots were poorly designed and I had to fight them to get the card to plug in enough to make electrical contact to the pins.
When the card was making contact, Puppy recognized it.
But it was a real bear to get the card to that point.
So I thought I would pass this along as a caution to make sure the network card is fully inserted into the laptop.

Nice call 8-bit.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).
