Wine 1.5.3

#287 Post by green_dome »

my attempt at compiling wine-1.5.3

wine-1.5.3_v1
version 1 | stripped=true

wine-1.5.3_v2
version 2 | stripped=false

md5 | hashdeep

When submitting bug reports to WineHQ, it appears a non stripped Wine provides more information than a stripped Wine.
Non stripped = better for squashing bugs.

One is 'pets2sfs'

Another is 'createsfs'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I compiled using puplet: Puppies 4.31.1 by forum member 'ttuuxxx'
I specifically used the files:
puppies-431.1-main-Xserver.iso - [forum post] [mirror 1]
devx_430.sfs - [forum post] [mirror 1]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I installed these packages before compiling:

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --build=i486-pc-linux-gnu --x-includes=/usr/X11R7/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R7/lib --with-x
Menu entries, Color Setter, and other stuff I got from the file 'winegoodies.tar.gz' provided by forum member 'technosaurus'.
I only made a few changes to the contents of that file.

I use the console to install packages from winetricks. For help with this I use

Hello,

is there a wine.pet or wine.sfs where USB is supported?
I use LaZY-Puppy.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 081#633081
Here is installed and works wine 1.3.13 pretty well up on USB!
Is there perhaps a wineversion with USB patch?

Many greetings

Wolfgang

What is the difference? Not understand
version 1 is stripped:
--strip-debug
Remove debugging symbols only.
--strip-unneeded
Remove all symbols that are not needed for relocation processing.

version 2 is not stripped.

Hallo green_dome,
I will try to compile wine 1.5.6 tomorrow with usbpatch.
Great! I would be delighted if my programs can then appeal to the USB interface including the wine! That would be super!

Many greetings

Hello,

have the version "wine 1.5.6 i486_v2.pet" installed and tested. It is no communication possible with wine is still via USB. But the hardware can be addressed with a Linux tool on USB0.

G'day green_dome,

Thanks for persevering with wine through all its versions.

I have just run the latest pet - wine-1.5.6 - and got a couple of error messages related to firstly "gecko" and then "mono" (which latter I hadn't seen before).

The gecko message (that I should download the gecko engine) surprised me as I had downloaded the recommended latest gecko as per the Wine Wiki and copied it (wine_gecko-1.6-x86.msi) to /usr/share/wine/gecko before running a wine program.

The Wine Wiki says I needed:
wine-1.5.0 - wine-1.5.5 = wine_gecko-1.5-x86.msi
wine-1.5.6 - current = wine_gecko-1.6-x86.msi

When I added the older gecko (wine_gecko-1.5) to /usr/share/wine/gecko, the gecko-needed message did not appear and the program needing this seemed to run.

So I'm a bit puzzled about the numbering of wines and geckos and wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem.

The "mono" message I hadn't seen before, but I found the Wine Wiki page on this quite large additional file 'wine-mono-0.0.4.msi'(~40MB) now required for programs using MS's .Net system.

Perhaps your standard post about each wine version pet could now also mention somewhere near your gecko message, a possible need to download the "mono" msi - or add an extra link to its Wiki:

http://wiki.winehq.org/Mono

Again, I'd like to hear if anyone else has seen a similar first-run message with wine-1.5.6.
And which MS programs or types of program would need the Mono .msi installed?

Thanks,
David S.
