I will add this onto my Pwidgets todo-list

Bad news, the problem noted earlier with 003 has returned with Lucid puppy 007 and is still in 008. The PCC Desktop Trays button does not function. Also, the Edit tray button in the top mention does not work. The tray files can be edited manually. This problem occurred with a new 3fs save file created to test DuDE.

lupu-008 has an additional problem. If the programs menu is set to be activated by a left mouse click, clicking on a desktop icon will bring up the programs menu instead of executing the desktop icon. Something to do with pointer focus.
Hi Jim
Thank you for taking the effort to report these problems. My plan is to release DuDE 0.2 around the time Puppy 5 is arriving. I still focus on new features, and will wait for a stable Puppy before I start testing..... That means I have some evenings before we switch to a feature-freeze.

Let's hope the problems in Lupuhas a simple solution. Playdayz might have forgotten to include the correct gtkdialog/jwm package.

Good plan, DuDE worked perfectly in 006, then gave problems in 007 and 008, and now there is an 000 experimental out (3 releases in 2 days). I'm still going to try it though, at least I'm learning how to use it, and love it.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Sigmund

Playdayz currently has an older gtkdialog in Lupu. I have compiled the Patriot edition and I'm sure it will be in the final. He's very busy just getting the thing to work correctly for all and doing a fine job. I'll mention it again soon.

JWM is now up to revision 490 by Joe. I have not compiled this yet, but Dougal reported on Barry's blog that it is good and fixed many minor issues.

Rox is still has a problem in Lupu but that is fixed for the next version.

Hopefully DuDE can play nicely in Lupu very soon.

Cheers

Hi zigbert,

Pleasant surprise this afternoon to return and find your latest. Installed it on lupu-009, and it is working great. Your added features, Pcorner and Virtual Keyboard work fine.

Pnote gives this message although it appears to be working fine.

Code: Select all

sh: line 4: kill: (5483) - No such process
/usr/sbin/pnote: line 40: 4905 Killed gtkdialog3 -p Pnote -G +0+0
Ptray gives same error message as DuDE 0.1 on lupu-009 as reported before.

Code: Select all

** ERROR **: gtkdialog: Error in line 369, near token ‘string’: syntax error
Because of this I couldn't check out the updates that depend on ptray and the associated buttons.

Thanks for this update, although there are still errors with lupu, it's still a great addition.

Jim :D

To get it going in lupu, you should install Micks jwm/gtkdialog pack.

I still get an error message with lupu-111 which I understand has that fix. Other than this it works great.

Code: Select all

# ptray
(process:2482): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
	Using the fallback 'C' locale.
** ERROR **: gtkdialog: Error in line 225, near token 'string': syntax error
aborting...
#
Maybe lupu-112 due out tonight will correct this problem.

Frugal installation of ttuuxxx's 4.3.2 v3 has a different error message and of course the Edit tray and Trays buttons do not work. Have lupu and 4.3.2v3 done something similar? If not the problem may be with DuDE. Other than the ptray problem, it works great.

Code: Select all

# ptray
** ERROR **: gtkdialog: Error in line 374, near token 'string': syntax error
aborting...
#
Cheers,
Jim

Jim
I wonder if this is caused by 'something' you have installed.

Could you do a check:

1. open /usr/sbin/ptray in a text editor. Close to the bottom of the code, you'll find the line '#echo "$Ptray" > /root/gtk'. remove the hash - 'echo "$Ptray" > /root/gtk'

2. After executing ptray, open /root/gtk in a text-editor and find line 225 in lupu or line 374 in Puppy 4.3.2. What does the line(s) say.

Thank you
Sigmund

Edit: Why not attach the whole /root/gtk file

Hope this helps, you probably do need the whole file because of the echo that's included. Line 225 "<item>Theme Orange</item>" doesn't appear to be relevant to the problem.

You are correct, because of this statement, I started lupu-112 with no save file and installed DuDE first. It worked flawlessly, then still without a save file I installed my usual programs, one at a time, checking ptray after each installation and found the conflicting program "snap2_4.3.pet". Too bad, it's a super backup utility.

Sorry that I've wasted your time, I could have done this earlier.

Your update is super, it works fine without pwidgets. Pcorners, and all of the other features work great.

Thanks,
Jim :D

Why should Snap2 interfere with DuDE

My usual software plus is installed now except for snap2. This is Amarok, wine, e-Sword, firefox, seamonkey, OpenOffice3.2, pwidgets, edit_sfs, java, numlockx, Pet_Maker, Startmount, Sunbird, thunderbird, gnome-games-Lite, and DuDE. All work fine except DuDE's ptray when I install snap2.

Any ideas as to what I should check? I'd like to help find a solution, maybe we could get Istandish to look into this. Presently, 01micko has links in lupu-112's Quickpet for DuDE and snap2.

Cheers,
Jim

I use this snap2 which is the same one that's linked to by Quickpet on Lupu. I hope that you are able to duplicate the problem that I get.

Note: I see that the link is to an older version 2-4.4.2, I used 2-4.4.3, and I found that Istandish has updated it to 2-4.4.4. I'm installing it now to see if it has the same affect.

Unfortunately the latest version affects ptray as before. However there is another conflict that I hadn't noticed. Snap2 will not operate from the menu, it does start from a console with this message

Code: Select all

# snap2
(process:19927): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
	Using the fallback 'C' locale.

Jim
The problem is in the file /usr/share/applications/snap2_run.desktop

Code: Select all

Exec=xterm -e "snap2shell snapshot default.set"
The Quotes interferes with the Stardust program detection.
If you remove /usr/share/stardust/bin/"snapshell, everything else should work just fine. Fixed this for next update.

Thank you
Sigmund

Great, it worked, also worked with pup-4.3.2! :D
EDIT: However, this breaks one of the functions of snap2 which is to make a quick snapshot backup. The snap2 GUI still works properly.

This problem has nothing to do wit Stardust, but has been around for a long time in the official Puppy. If you first remove icons on desktop, then install a sfs, icons return.

Sigmund
Jim........ the way to deal with this is to set your desktop up the way you want then remaster. This way, your preferred desktop becomes the default (which always gets loaded after installing sfs etc) instead of the Puppy original. Remastering using Dougals modified script is easy.
