AUTHORS OF PROGAMS (HELP US ALL FIND YOUR STUFF)

#1 Post by bigpup »

People are starting to catch on to what I am trying to do, provide a listing of programs under main topic headings.
If you go to:

INDEX ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=54034

select a topic heading

you will go to a list of links to programs for that topic.

The big thing is, these Main Topic lists can be added to by ANYONE. If you find a program post, that is not listed, you can add a link to it in the appropriate main topic list. Some people have done this and also realized that when they post a link, it can give a brief info statement about the program.

One big thing about this, WE CAN ALL HELP to improve these lists and make it much easier to find all the great programs that are in the section ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE (Pets, N' Stuff)

I started this less then a week ago and it looks like some people can see the benefit of making it easier to find programs in ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE (Pets, N' Stuff). I have no problem adding to these lists and helping people find programs. I am not a programmer or very good at this stuff, but I did not want to come to this forum and just be a user.

What I do not understand are the people, that add programs to ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE (Pets, N' Stuff), do not seem interested in trying to make this work. You would think that going to all the trouble of making a program, you would want to make it easy to find. It would take them 2 minutes to post a link to their new program post in the appropriate MAIN TOPIC List.

Anyone can add to these MAIN TOPIC lists. If you are one of the people that have.

THANKS!!!

I see it's progressing well bigpup! :D 8)

If this is a winner, and I think it IS...
It will begin to take on a life of its own and gain in momentum.

I for one will be using it to find stuff. :D

Just added the INDEX to my Firefox bookmarks.

Not sure where you would want this placed BigPup.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=53986

I don't know if it goes under system or utitlities as it justs adds more functions to terminal.
I am just a Biker. Not a programmer.

Not sure myself. You can put it in UTILITIES.

Thanks for willing to help with putting program links in the MAIN TOPIC list of programs.

You know more then anyone what this does, so where you feel it needs to go is fine. If you post the link, you can always change it.

I know how to upload to the forum and will add the odd
pet or sfs if that's ok.

However, not sure about the wikka - is it the same proceedure

Would like to help in a small way - if that's ok.

106498,

I feel your pain.
That's why I made this so anyone can post a link to a program post, not just me.
Are you related to 106499? you must be in a really nice prison that they let you use computers.

Ray MK,

Dive in, any help is greatly appreciated! Any thing you do helps me, you, and everyone else. Do not know about the wikki how you post to it.

Authors of Programs HELP!

#9 Post by bigpup »

If you are the author of this program, I thank you for a fine addition to Puppy Linux and please do not be upset by me using you as an example.

Look at this tittle to a post in Additional Software (Pets N' Stuff):

acpid-1.0.8-i486 pet package for Puppy 4.1.x

Could you tell what it is, what it does, what's it for, or anything by this tittle? I sure could not.
This is a program I have been looking for and knew it was here somewhere.

This is what it is:

Press power button to shutdown your puppy & power off computer.
A simple script to turn on power button support and set the config for puppy ... Walla ... press power button and puppy will now shutdown and computer will power-off.

Works on Puppy 4.3.1 not sure about others.

Need I say more?

posting creep

#11 Post by bigpup »

Program Authors did you know?
Your program post is slowly creeping into the lower recesses of Additional Software(Pets N' Stuff). Too bad. I saw your program, when it was first posted, but now it is on page 75 and I just do not feel like looking that far back to find it.
