Intel i810 Driver

#166 Post by alec78 »

Hi all,
Further to my post above, to see if I had made an error I did a pfix=ram boot from the CD. Again at the video set up screen I hit the choose button and then OK. When the desktop came up I ran report-video. It was the same as previous i.e. showing the vesa driver.
I then did my normal boot from the CD to a save file on an USB dongle. I intended to follow the instructions given by BarryK in the Quirky 013 Bugs Feedback thread on the 31/3/10.
When I looked in /usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/modules/drivers there was no intel driver, there were i810 and vesa drivers. I deleted the vesa driver, exited to the promp and ran xorgwizard. Hitting the chose button brought up a box saying something like not implemented yet, so I hit the probe button, I then had to manually select the resolution and depth. The installation then went to completion with a black screen. I killed that with the power button and rebooted. The desktop came up and report-video showed the vesa driver.
It seems the original xorg wizard is deleting the intel driver but not selecting the i810 driver and deferring to the vesa driver.
Cheers

Quirky 018 feedback

#169 Post by Billtoo »

I get a black screen no matter which I choose, probe, choose,or vesa.

At one point it said it was just going to use the 810 driver, my pc has the Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) so a black screen was what I got.

I posted the above from quirky 018 which works fine and I've rebooted to puppy 3.01 and it works fine too (although it takes about 10 minutes to boot up 3.01).

The pc is a "Linux puppypc 2.6.21.7 #1 Sun Sep 9 02:29:54 GMT-8 2007 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux"

Thanks for site rjbrewer. I did try the location:
mms://wtju-r.eservices.virginia.edu/WTJU-test
It did work in both mplayer and pupradio. However, the locations for the Gulch receiver and pupradio CFGP, still do not. It is clear that Sea Monkey, latest version has a problem. I am still a bit confused why Puppy 4.3.1 Gxine does not have a problem, but, mplayer of Quirky 018 does have one. I am waiting until the next version of Quirky.

Wary 019

#171 Post by BarryK »

Might as well use this thread also for feedback on Wary 019, as announced here:

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=01504

I'm very interested to know if testers having trouble with video in Quirky 018, find Wary 019 fixes it (or is worse).

CFGP is easy to listen to; on any player or any of the 3 Puppies on my laptop. Quirkys' mplayer has nothing to do with that.

Shacknet? What's that? Some old fart sitting in a ham shack in
England? I don't even get a signal from that on my shortwave
receivers.

wary 019

#174 Post by ecube »

Everything works fine. The only (cosmetic) problem is a open box error message (a buglet residue?)

To keep track of my IP-address, I added a file

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
IP=`ifconfig wlan0 | grep inet`
xmessage -timeout 5 -bg cyan -buttons "" "${IP:20:13}" &
to the Startup directory

Excellent work Barry.

Probe in 18 worked fine....Probe in 19 said it detected video card, but no video, had to use vesa.

Shoutcast audio - 19

#179 Post by tlchost »

In 19 audio feeds from shoutcast.net will not play. Player loads file partially and then reports stopped.

Occurs with SeaMonkey and Firefox.

Wary 019:

I have rolled-back Xorg Intel and Ati PET packages, if anyone wants to try them. This is for Wary 019 only:

Hi

Using Wary019 now with Opera10 sfs. Used SM2 earlier and all seems very good.

Initial impression is that Wary feels a little faster than Quirky018.

Using a little less ram memory to run as more is now available.
293 as opposed to 289 in quirky.

Like the new memory meter. Acpid works fine.
Nice to see abiword 2.8.3. - Gnumeric 1.8.4 (maybe 1.10.xx when time allows)

Overall IMHO - Superb.

As always - mega thanks for a smashing new Puppy and
Very best regards - Ray

The /filesystem, /misc, and /wireless links at
http://bkhome.org/sources/kernel-2.6.33.2/3rd-party/
don't work. Are they unpopulated?

my updated q018 test-article on p1

@capoverde on p6 (ref scrolling desks) - blame it on rox's pinboard (scrollwheel deskswitching in openbox is restricted a bit by using a roxpin for a drag'n'drop-featured desktop), openbox can be made more efficient but possibly it may 'break' in the process of trimming various features as integrated in q018.

@BarryK on p7 (ref fbpanel) - tpyos :), actually I like request and center on the left for those options, docking and setpartialstrut is another story..

confirm geany works fine in q018 (and other tes as well)

mmm, 'full' (poweroff) shutdown - actually I like power to remain on sometimes (using a liveCD 'bootdisc' since my old y2k BIOS won't properly boot from usb-stick and often I like the option to have power still 'on' so I can eject the liveCD 'bootdisc' at end of session) - btw, "system halted" makes sense to me as the final message .. maybe the "It is now safe to turn your computer off" for a retro look :)

retrovol (advanced) r-click menu works oki after the initial session - on initial session it poofs the advanced window and traycon.

addenda to my testing report - the usual (for me) edit of xorg got it working properly on my twin-vidcard usual machine, xorg accepted the edit and good to go (black fg on blue bg and all .. some xorgs are even harder to see the selected choice in an out-of-box console  )

wary019 and trackpad

#184 Post by broomdodger »

wary019 can not turn off tap on trackpad
so sensitive just getting close will open items

tried mouse wizard -- no good
tried editing xorg.conf -- no good
replaced xorg.conf with one from quirky018 -- no good

quirky018 I can turn off tap and add side scroll
wary019 neither can be done

Sharp PC-PJ2-S2 Celeron 300MHz

Otherwise seems to work.
