klhrevolutionist,
These older sound chips are non-PnP, so you probably just need to load the OSS sound driver manually.
If your Crystal sound chip is truly a CS4232, then the driver will be cs4232.
There's only one model of Crystal chip, the CS4248, which uses the ad1848 driver.
Do this -
modprobe cs4232 io=0x534 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=5
Obviously, use irq & i/o settings correct for your system.
You might need to find these by running -
cat /proc/interrupts
If if still doesn't work, there's a possibility the driver is loading at boot but with the wrong settings. You could try to unload it first -
rmmod cs4232

This is an old topic.. Alas, my sound issues arise again !
My sound works, but I am wanting to be able to use xms & gizmo (skype alt.) at same time. Dr. K on the chat had mentioned sound daemons but he is not in at the moment. So I thought I would ask if anyone knew how to allow two apps to use audio at same time ?
My personal thought on this is this: If I can listen to cd and use xmms at same time then I should be able to pipe xmms sound to what cd uses and allow gizmo to use the regular sound. This may not be possible but for some reason it makes sense to me.
If anyone has a clue please reply. Thanks & Merry Christmas !

Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!
