Would you guys who have Intel video hardware and get the black screen (955GM chip) please test the attached driver.

Intall it, then exit from X and run 'xorgwizard'.

Does video work in Lupu?

If the 2.9.0 driver that I posted doesn't work, did you try the i810 driver that is in Quirky?

If everything fails, I do plan an official release of Wary soon.

EDIT:
No, the i810 driver doesn't work at all. I have taken it out for 1.1 final. It will however work with Xorg 7.3, that is, in Wary.

hi Barry, i have tried your suggestions and the only way i can display a viewable screen is to tweak the refresh rate in the vesa driver, this allows the lowest resolution but the touchpad is very sensitive.

Below is info from my own build of dpup,(i am using a full install on the dell at the moment) if this helps you.

X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux Debian (xorg-server 2:1.4.2-10.lenny2)
Current Operating System: Linux puppypc 2.6.33.2 #1 SMP Mon Apr 5 12:55:04 Local time zone must be set--see zic m i686
Build Date: 08 June 2009 09:12:57AM

This is an entry from my dpup bootkernel.log

intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 55264 usecs (2663 samples)

i have downloaded lupo and tried it pfix=ram and it did not get as far as Quirky, it hung on the loading the xscript, black screen and lockup.
intel8x0: clocking to 48000

powerapplet_tray: X needs to be rebooted for tray widget to reflect current state, although clicked on message box is correct.

Edit: Scratch that....now it's working

No problems with qret104, but qrky104 stalled sometimes on boot and also crashed during browsing, Xorg & VESA refused to restart - nV GeF2.

Very good, but I am still trying to get the display at 1920x1200
(Nvidia Vanta NV6). This works with Wary ootb.

To replace my puppy43 wallpaper if you like:

Neither Seamonkey or Firefox can play files from shoutcast.net after cache loads in from 15 to 20 % file starts to reload.

Problem does not exist with 431.

puppymartin,
That blue background is really nice. I'll use it in 1.1 final.

I can play Shoutcast streams using gnome-mplayer, but it definitely takes much longer to cache than Gxine or other players I have used.

The cups setup wizard apparently does not provide an option for connecting to a Windows printer via smb. I remembered a similar problem with Puppy 4.2 and a solution provided by rcrsn51 here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=29208.

The problem is a missing symbolic link. I was able to solve it with two lines of code from rcrsn51's post:

Code: Select all

ln -s /opt/samba/bin/smbspool /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/cups restart
Enter the two lines in a console. The first line creates the missing symbolic link, the second simply restarts cups. The wizard should then display the smb option.

Thanks rcrsn51!

In Quirky, you have to run the Printer Wizard from the Setup menu once to install some patches. The missing smb symlink is one of them.

I am trying to change the default application for Shoutcast PLS streams in Seamonkey. SM currently uses gnome-mplayer. If I go to Edit > Preferences > Helper Applications, most of the plugins are listed, but PLS is missing. If I go to about:plugins, I can see it associated with gnome-mplayer.

I also notice that PDF files are not listed, but SM knows to open them in epdfview.

I have the same problem with Firefox. Does anyone know where these associations are being set?

Mozilla apps fall back to reading /etc/mime.types and /etc/mailcap.

Hi, I like the ability to choose any available display driver instead of probing. I'm looking at the updates to /usr/sbin/xorgwizard for an upcoming Lighthouse release and I'm wondering about the edits labeled #100430.

Line 97: $SUBSTDRV is nv then to replace nvidia don't we want to 'rmmod nvidia' ?

Line 109 $SUBSTDRV is nvidia then to replace nv maybe 'modprobe nvidia' ?

Line 113 If $CHOSENDRV entered in Choose dialog, Line 468 isn't one of the available drivers, say the user makes a typo, then no drivers are copied back to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/... Maybe the Choose dialog could be a menu like that used in /usr/sbin/chooselocale, line 91, or else I think we need to check the text input for valid driver?

Thanks,
TazOC

Thanks, that worked.

FWIW, I dropped Helix player into Quirky and it is MUCH faster at loading PLS and M3U streams than gnome-mplayer.

The resolution 1920x1200 works now: xorgwizard -> choose -> nv

Optimized the blue wallpaper (better character 'kerning'):

Sad to say but my Toshiba Tecra 8000 having Neomagic MagicGraph 256AV (NM2200) chipset fails to display anything either with Quirky 1.1rc or Quirky-Retro 1.1rc.
Both Wary 020 and Lupu 500 run well. While waiting for Wary (1.1?) I am trying to do some hacking. I just downloaded neomagic drivers for Xorg 7.4 and 7.5.

quirky 1.1 RC Thinkpad R40 sound and video

#34 Post by Béèm »

When playing a video from www.youtube.com video and sound are ok.
When playing a mp4 video downloaded with you2pup, video is ok, but there is no sound.
The same for previous downloaded flv video's from youtube.

wmv and mpg seem to play nicely.

avi's are playing a bit chunky.

quirky 1.1rc, Thinkpad R40, internet connection SNS

Setup with SNS isn't etained during boots.
However /etc/simple_network_setup/connections contains the correct configuration data, but the file doesn't seem to be read at boot.
