Me too.
Agree with further Quickpet development
Simple, powerful, works.
also . . .
Clicking on date bottom right is not bringing up the calendar
and . . . whilst I am here
I have one of the VLC pets working OK - not sure which one
but that could be added to Quickpet
Also another thing I thought of whilst cycling this morning
Tiered menuing (now we have a simpler menu coding)
Noob Menu (basic features with simple names eg Paint instead of Mt paint)
Puppy User (all features but with simple names)
Full Geek (redirects to website to create your own)

Hey, sounds like a good plan.
I'd love to help you with development, I think I can help in many areas. I started working on a modified GPicView some time ago and abandoned it, I think I can fix it and change things so it integrates in Lupu perfectly.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=921814399&t=47495
I can change its name and everything, to make it smaller and lighter. Sounds like a good alternative for the old Viewnior in Puppy.
Also, I think Puppy needs some sound configuration wizard that runs alsaconf, alsamixer and adjusts volume levels. That could be a great thing for people that face problems with getting sound to work. Sort of a 1-2-3 wizard, no sound-alsaconf, still no sound- alsamixer, then it checks volume levels or something. Just an idea.

I'll begin with hacking a svn GPicView for Lupu. Sounds like a fun project. Maybe I rebrand it as PImage or something ...

I know 5.0 aim was to have the traditional puppy look / desktop layout but how about a new look/layout for 5.1?

Integration is the key...
zigbert already has DuDE which is officially supported in Quickpet. I installed your puppy.look pet over DuDE and had a disaster.. recovered fine though.
I do like your ideas and perhaps you should touch base with ziggy, he's a nice guy.. (although he'd probably want to bang my head for saying that.. he's a head banger...oh.. hang on, so am I! )
Seriously though, he may want to include your ideas in DuDE. I learned to code off ziggy so it wont do you any harm . He may even make you an honourary blingy boy .. a true distinction, no joke. It is a part of my Puppy heritage.
Cheers

I think that is a good idea too. Be sure to check what is already there as a first step--just a general rule of thumb.

Yes. There are two update procedures in place. First, the Update feature in Quickpet--the first one will be in a week or so. Second,.a bugfix release 5.0.1 in a month or so, followed by a 5.0.2 if necessary. Concerning bugs that don't get fixed. Some bugs just can't be fixed by us--those are built into Xorg, for instance. We can only look for ways to work around such bugs as those. It might be interesting to look at all the threads since the beginning of uPup development to see what percentage of reported problems have been rectified.

playdayz, can you make a thread with a list of bugs and their status, plus a wishlist for 5.1? I think it could be a great idea to do such a thing and make it sticky. And locked maybe, so people don't mess it up with comments.
Another thread can be used for discussion about the development. People can refer to bugs and release goals by their numbers in the list or something, that could be awesome. Just think of it, "I solved #1, here's the fix", "I implemented #4" and so on. Moreover, people can be assigned tasks so the work is done more efficiently.
This way, we can hunt down bugs and release goals one by one easily, everything is presented clearly in front of our eyes.
By the way, does Woof come with all the Lupu stuff already? I'd like to make some Lupu "snapshots" to see if anything changed since the Ubuntu Lucid release. I'm sure it's a good idea to generate snapshots regularly, maybe some bugs (from the future list ) will be solved for us by the Ubuntu guys.

I replaced it only out of a prejudice for Ubuntu binaries in LP--it was actually bigger. You might try the one in the Puppy Package Manager (the pet). Both gparted's were taking a long time on ntfs drives--eventually displaying them, but very fast on Linux drives. I see what you mean about the uuid's. Let us know if you find one please. Thanks. | Upnorth's fix appears to work fine.

one thing different is that i dropped in /sbin/blkid obtained from elsewhere.
anyone with quirky could copy its /sbin/blkid to /sbin. it might help gparted. |

That will never do. OK, here's one: it needs to be expanded. There should be a Word Processor Installer, comparable to the present Browser Installer; a Window Manager Installer too (for IceWM, at the very least); and maybe some other fairly big packages would be better as optional downloads rather than integral parts of the basic Puppy distro.

haha! Who siad I was finished?
Now, i've only used abi and Writer (OOorg). Can we get hold of that one you like..is it Softmaker? What other WPs will be suited? While we're at it, what about spread sheets?
We do need to be careful what we take out, there are those that are still on dialup and those who don't even have net access.
Cheers

Not to mention that only the main SFS runs in RAM.

That is a point rarely made Jemimah. It has a big bearing on the importance of re-mastering, yet the re-master process is still very basic. Only Dougals re-master script produces a true copy, the included script borks most of the customisation, such as additional trays in .jwm.
It is an area ripe for development.
