big_bass I tested the iso but failed to get out on the internet because I don't know what driver to load.
I have no need to know that when I use the Simple Network S. in Quirky.
It just works.
Can I borrow that SNS in some way so I can test your distro? or how do I find out what LAN I have?

not an ideal solution though

to see what you have for network
you could
and post the result at least I could see what you are using
Joe
you could
Code: Select all
grep "eth0:" /tmp/bootkernel.log
Joe
Seems me have nVidia MCP61 ethernet.
I log out and reboot and test if that one us included among the options.
Did you answer why you don't provide a sns among the network.
Or if I can easily import sns from an existing version or as a Pet?
could not find any kind of nvidia unless the list use a name for it me not recognize.
the more did not help either. It loaded the first always and did not test next and next.
Why not use sns instead for this cumbersome failure? Are you sure sns is not available for your distro.

Dougal did an outstanding job on the network setupWhy not use sns instead for this cumbersome failure?
and it has been tested on thousands of machines with success
also tempestuous added in many drivers with support of how to configure them
if a few slip through and don't get auto detected it would be better to add the fix into the provided support than rip it out and replace it with something else
remember this is linux support gets added in a little at a time based on detailed informative user feedback and companies that maintain support for drivers for linux
with only the name of the diver you provide using the
Code: Select all
grep "eth0:" /tmp/bootkernel.log
but then it may not and more information would be needed
I have no idea you would have to ask the developer of the program if it was designed to work on all puppy versions or not if it could be added in you could test itCan I borrow that SNS in some way so I can test your distro?

That is what Quirky says in the bootkernel.logforcedeth: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver. Version 0.64.
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APCH] enabled at IRQ 20
forcedeth 0000:00:07.0: PCI INT A -> Link[APCH] -> GSI 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 20
forcedeth 0000:00:07.0: setting latency timer to 64
But how can a newbie know that that is the driver to use. Now that I know I can look for it in Slaxer I test it and tell the result within 10 minutes
Edit
Thanks for not giving up on me and for you generous patience with my whining and maybe unfair criticism but I am spoiled coming from Quirky that just works.
Your suggested driver worked first try but I can assure you that that one are so way down in the line of drivers that I would have no way of knowing that one was supposed to be used.
I simply don't have that knowledge to know that that one was supposed to be chosen and the auto loading never started the walking down. it only used the first choice each time.
the reason me cared about Slaxer was that I wanted to have one puppy based on each big distro. Slackware, Debian, Ubuntu Suse and so on.

knowing what hardware you have makes a world of difference when it comes to
setting up your computer quickly and correctly
even if you"are not sure how to configure ,compile or just select the correct driver
with just a bootkernel log that would be a great help to the tech trying to help you get up and running
Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote an info get to get all the important hardware info for debugging
*pakt added in some support also
you unzip it than click on info_get_v03
all the needed info gets made the placed inside
/root/info_tarball.tar.gz you upload this file or PM it to the tech helping you to make everything easy for everyone

ProZilla is a download accelerator for Linux
It is a multi-threaded download accelerator for Linux which supports both HTTP and FTP protocols and increases download speeds with up to 200-300%.
instead of wget -c http://www.whateverHere are some key features of "ProZilla":
· Supports FTP & HTTP including redirection (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
· Resume Supported (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
· Complete acceleration: The file will be downloaded as fast as possible as your bandwidth allows if not otherwise specified (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
· Unlike certain other download accelerators available for Linux, this really works.
· The number of connections that prozilla uses can be specified (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
· FTPsearch support now permits fetching Mirror locations and pinging them and selecting the fastest server is automatically done (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
· Downloading the same file in parts from several servers at once to increase speed (ProzGUI).
Code: Select all

ath5k
Hi all:
Does anybody have any tips on getting an ath5k device to work? I see that madwifi is in the allfirmware directory, but I think it would also need ath_pci and maybe more I can't remember.
I think the switch to ath5k/mac80211 happened with the 2.6.28 series kernel, but before that, it used madwifi/ath_pci and the interface name was ath0.
Thanks
updated
I found a package here that contains the needed modules, and installed it, but something else is still needed because if I modprobe, it says wrong module format, but is for 2.6.27.7 so should match.

updated the first page in the thread with wifi drivers and nvidia drivers
if I missed one of the drivers you need let me know nows a good time for me to add in more support I finally got the package management
completed which took alot of time setting up and coding
so that slaxer has all the backend support and a new GUI to handle
slackware packages
its a big difference to convert a slackware package into a pet package and install with petget
I dont do that I handle slackware package directly using official tools as the backend all was made easily so you just click on the package and it installs no command line knowledge needed
one thing official slackware doesnt have is dependency checking
I coded that in so now you have it
if you have a hard drive install using pkgtools you can uninstal
packages built in (this is the cooking version so its cooking now adding many packages when I am finished you could uninstall any built in package and build it however you wanted easily
the ultimate base system and daily use **tinker toy for real geeks**
*and if you have a special pet package to install no problem I didnt
break pet package compatibility with the 412 puppy format

cooking version not working right on IBM thinkpad 600x
Hi Joe, long story short, I wanted to watch a dvd video on my laptop and neither gxine or vlc worked on Fedora 11 lxde spin, nor on the new lupo (puppy v501) so I tried your original slaxer pup and it worked!
So I visted these forums and saw you had this cooking version which I downloaded and that works too as far as playing a video -- (and my broadcom 4318 wireless too!) but I did a frugal install to it's own (puppy412) folder and it didn't save any of my settings and I noticed the HDD light stayed on, even when the HDD wasn't being accessed. So there's something not 'quite right' about the newest version on my laptop. Here are some specs:
IBM Thinkpad 600x with 256mb ram Pentium PIII at 500mhz
Audio adapter is a Cirrus Logic Sound Fusion CS46xx (I ran hardinfo)
IDE disks
IC25N010ATCS04-0 (that must be the hard drive)
MATSHITADVD-ROM SR-8171 (Obviously the dvd drive)
Thankfully I wrote the iso for the 'cooking' slaxer on an RW cd. If you need anything else, let me know.

Hey CiaW
A great report
if you want a very nice media player select mplayer from the first page of this thread
that plays many formats
*about the hard drive light nothing I changed could have effected that
make sure you dont have any older pupsaves or 412 sfs getting loaded
maybe it is using swap ?
thanks for posting if you need anything else let me know

lilo boot puppy
this is for anyone who boots from lilo instead of grub
and installs slaxer_pup
easy to modify for your different drives
since I have slackware 12.2 installed it uses lilo
to boot the system
if you want to install puppy on the same hardrive as your other lilo bootloader 2 distro in my case slackware was installed first
1.)install puppy using the installer the official way
frugal dont install grub
2.)edit /etc/lilo.conf {this gets added to lilo.conf its not complete}
then save it
boot into your lilo based distro
then in a console
now reboot and you have options to boot slaxer
slaxer which is frugal and uses your saved file
Ram-Slaxer like when you boot the first time from the live cd
fsck Slaxer does the file system check then boots your system with the saved file
P.S I saw that pizzasgood did this along time ago
but you dont need to move any files into the boot folder this way
and I wanted it pre setup for slaxer_pup for the slackware users
that join in to help
